Un sorpasso azzardato, uno schianto ed è finito il sogno di Steven e Angelica, due fidanzati. Tornavano a Cagliari da Villacidro (Il «paese d’ombre», raccontato da Giuseppe Dessì, romanzo best seller) dov’erano andati per dare uno sguardo ai lavori della nuova casa dove avevano deciso di andare a vivere, quando lei, 17 anni, ha saputo che attendeva un bimbo.
Tradito dalla passione per le auto e la velocità: dopo una curva Steven, da pochi mesi diciottenne, si è trovato davanti un trattore con rimorchio, forse non ha fatto neanche in tempo a vederlo e ci si è schiantato contro.
Morti lui e Angelica, perduto anche il bimbo.
E ora i carabinieri indagano: il ragazzo non risulta avesse patente di guida, l’auto era stata presa a noleggio. Si erano conosciuti poco più di un anno fa.

Steven Carbini era nato in Germania, figlio di immigrati sardi. La madre, tornata in Sardegna dopo essersi separata, aveva un nuovo compagno e per Steven aveva cercato di costruire un futuro senza incertezze: un bar enoteca aperto a Cagliari nel quartiere di Sant’Elia, proprio di fronte allo stadio di calcio, vicino ai box del mercato civico.
«Esuberante, irrequieto, irresistibilmente attratto dalle emozioni forti, dalla velocità di auto e moto», dicono gli amici.
Lo aveva un po’ calmato un anno fa l’incontro con Angelica: amore fulmineo e subito grandi progetti.
Anche lei figlia di immigrati, Angelica Lucia Angulo Gomez, originaria del Costarica, bruna, vivace e subito affascinata da quel ragazzo simpatico e pieno di vitalità.
Aspettavano un figlio da quattro mesi. Avevano deciso di lavorare a Cagliari, ma di vivere a Villacidro, paese d’origine della famiglia di Steven, che aveva una casa e voleva ristrutturarla.

Morti sul colpo nello schianto, con una scia di rimpianti, fatalità, negligenze che alimentano un’inchiesta giudiziaria per omicidio colposo: Steven guidava l’auto, ma chi l’aveva noleggiata e aveva affidato una Mercedes, troppo potente per essere comunque guidata da un diciottenne, a un giovane che neanche aveva la patente?
E ancora: ai carabinieri non risulta alcuna omologazione del trattore — il conducente è all’ospedale, ferito — né la dotazione delle luci di sicurezza del rimorchio.
