“Continuo a tagliarmi ancora e non penso a nient’altro che alla morte”.
Un messaggio terribile, angosciante.
Ancora di più per il fatto che è stato inviato da una quindicenne, Monica (il nome è di fantasia), alla neuropsichiatra infantile che l’ha in cura.
Monica è una tra le migliaia di ragazzi che – dopo il lockdown, la riapertura, la primavera, l’estate, e infine questo autunno fatto di precarietà, di vite sul limite, di ospedali pieni all’inverosimile, di storie di strazio e dolore – esplodono, letteralmente, spezzandosi e perdendosi in mille rivoli.
Un anno in cui nulla è stato ed è certo neanche per gli adulti, figurarsi per dei quasi bambini, adolescenti o preadolescenti di 11 anni. Come quelli che ogni giorno finiscono con il bussare alle porte di via dei Sabelli, dove si trova il reparto di Neuropsichiatria infantile dell’Umberto I.
È questo il grido di allarme che lancia proprio quel reparto. Dove in questo momento ci sono 8 ragazzini ricoverati, 3 in attesa di un ricovero che non ci sarà perché mancano i posti letto, 120 in “diurno”, cioè seguiti quotidianamente dal personale.
Si tratta di bambini che richiedono un urgente approfondimento e una valutazione, e che presentano disturbi dell’umore e psichiatrici, tendenze suicidarie e autolesive. E non si può fare altro che questo, il diurno, visto anche che il nuovo reparto terminato, inaugurato in pompa magna, non è mai partito.
Monica dopo l’estate, racconta la dottoressa Arianna Terrinoni, era piena di speranza, era tornata a scuola con la voglia di ricominciare, come centinaia di suoi coetanei.
Ma poi è arrivata la Dad, il confinamento in casa, l’allontanamento da ciò che avrebbe potuto aiutarla, anche la sua terapeuta che può vedere solo attraverso un video, anche la palestra, che avrebbe potuto farle bene. Adesso è di nuovo preda dei suoi demoni. Che la spingono a tagliarsi, a farsi male, ad avere crisi epilettiche senza soffrire di epilessia.

“Durante il lockdown abbiamo assistito a un riduzione significativa dei ricoveri psichiatrici in età evolutiva e pediatrici (per esempio neurologici) “, spiega la dottoressa Terrinoni.
“Paradossalmente il lockdown aveva fatto da contenitore per tutte le situazioni lievi e moderate. Erano invece peggiorate le situazioni più gravi: autistici, psicotici, aggressivi. Dal 4 maggio in poi, con la riapertura, c’è stata una crescente richiesta di prestazioni e di accessi al pronto soccorso rispetto alle patologie psichiatriche. Oggi ancora di più, per la stagionalità: è infatti un momento dell’anno in cui c’è sempre un aumento dei comportamenti suicidari e autolesivi. In parte per la situazione generale di chiusura e precarietà. E il dato ancora più preoccupante è la richiesta di consulenze aumentata soprattutto per gli undicenni”.
Una vera piaga alla quale non si sa come porre rimedio: nel 2019 sono stati oltre 40 i casi di suicidio tra adolescenti e preadolescenti. Centinaia se non migliaia i casi di autolesionismo e tentativi di suicidio. E quest’anno non andrà certo meglio.
