Sudan rinoceronte – Da sempre il mondo degli animali è pieno di sorprese e ,eravigliose storie da raccontare. Qualche volta però accade che ci siano anche delle storie molto tristi che vengono rese note al grande pubblico.

E’ il caso di Sudan, il rinoceronte bianco che ha vissuto nello zoo Dvur Kralove nella Repubblica Ceca dal 1975 al 2009, e il resto della sua vita presso la Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Laikipia, Kenya. 

Al momento della sua morte, era uno dei soli tre rinoceronti bianchi del nord viventi nel mondo, e l’ultimo maschio conosciuto della sua sottospecie. Sudan è stato sottoposto a eutanasia il 19 marzo 2018, dopo aver sofferto di “complicazioni legate all’età“. Aveva 45 anni ed era malato da tempo.

Il rinoceronte è una specie che simboleggia appieno l’influenza negativa del bracconaggio in tutto il mondo animale. Esistono 5 specie di animali in Africa, di cui 2 specie (rinoceronte bianco e rinoceronte nero), e 3 specie in Asia (rinoceronte indiano, rinoceronte di Giava, rinoceronte di Sumatra). Questo rinoceronte rischia di scomparire dalla terra nei prossimi decenni.

Nella giornata di oggi, 20 dicembre 2020, Google ha voluto ricordare la scomparsa del povero rinoceronte Sudan con questo splendido Doodle che vedete nell’immagine qui in basso.

Un gesto significativo per ricordare come gli animali non debbano essere dimenticati.
