La Gran Bretagna ha approvato l’uso del vaccino anti-coronavirus della Pfizer-BioNTech che sarà disponibile nel Paese a partire dalla prossima settimana. Lo riferiscono i media britannici.
Il Regno Unito diventa così il primo Paese al mondo ad approvare il vaccino della Pfizer-BioNTech per un uso diffuso.
“Il governo ha accettato la raccomandazione dell’autorità di regolazione sui farmici del Regno, la Mhra, per approvare l’uso del vaccino Covid-19 della Pfizer-BioNTech”, si legge in un comunicato del ministero della Sanità.
“Il vaccino sarà disponibile in tutto il Regno Unito a partire dalla prossima settimana con la priorità agli anziani delle case di riposo e il personale medico“, aggiunge la nota.
La Mhra afferma che il vaccino offre fino al 95% di protezione contro il virus ed è sicuro per il lancio delle vaccinazioni di massa. Il Regno Unito ha già ordinato 40 milioni di dosi, sufficienti per vaccinare 20 milioni di persone, con due iniezioni ciascuna, riferisce la Bbc. Presto dovrebbero essere disponibili circa 10 milioni di dosi con le prime in arrivo nel Paese nei prossimi giorni.

L’approvazione della Gran Bretagna del vaccino della BioNTech-Pfizer contro il Covid-19 segna un “momento storico” nella battaglia contro la pandemia. E’ quanto ha affermato l’amministratore delegato del gruppo farmaceutico statunitense dopo che la sua azienda ha ottenuto la prima autorizzazione del genere in Occidente. “L’odierna autorizzazione all’uso di emergenza nel Regno Unito segna un momento storico nella lotta contro il Covid-19”, ha detto Albert Bourla, Ceo di Pfizer. L’azienda statunitense e la tedesca BioNTech prevedono ulteriori decisioni normative da altri Paesi “nei prossimi giorni e settimane”.
“E’ fantastico” che l’autorità britannica del farmaco “abbia formalmente autorizzato il vaccino Pfizer/BioNTech_Group contro il Covid-19”. Così in un tweet il premier Boris Johnson che conferma l’avvio della distribuzione nel Regno Unito delle prime dosi (800.000 per cominciare, secondo i media) dal prossimo weekend. “E’ la protezione dei vaccini che in fin dei conti ci permetterà di riavere indietro le nostre vite e che farà sì che l’economia torni a marciare“, aggiunge il primo ministro Tory.
