Ebola in Congo – Quattro persone sono morte a causa del virus Ebola dalla sua recrudescenza nell’est della Repubblica Democratica del Congo. La popolazione però è contraria alle misure sanitarie, il che fa temere una significativa diffusione dell’epidemia, in un Paese alla prese con altre emergenze sanitarie, a cominciare dal Covid-19. Lo annunciano fonti ufficiali.
Dalla ricomparsa dell’epidemia il 7 febbraio “abbiamo già registrato sei casi di Ebola. Abbiamo perso quattro pazienti. Due sono deceduti venerdì e sabato. Continuiamo a prenderci cura di due pazienti in cura presso il CTE (Centro di cura Ebola) a Katwa”, ha detto il dottor Eugène Syalita, ministro provinciale della salute per il Nord Kivu. Altri due pazienti sono morti il 3 e il 10 febbraio. “Alcune famiglie rifiutano categoricamente che le loro case siano disinfettate come pure sepolture dignitose e sicure”, si è rammaricato il dottor Syalita.

Come già successo in precedenza, la popolazione di questa regione rifiuta di credere all’esistenza del virus Ebola e si oppone ai cambiamenti imposti per evitare contaminazioni come evitare di toccare i malati o non lavare i cadaveri dei malati.
Il 18 novembre 2020 la Repubblica democratica del Congo aveva annunciato la fine ufficiale dell’undicesima epidemia di Ebola nella provincia dell’Equatore, che ha causato la morte di 55 persone su 130 casi registrati.
Il controllo sempre maggiore sul virus è stato reso possibile da una importante campagna di vaccinazione che ha raggiunto oltre 40 mila persone. Il virus, che si trasmette all’uomo da animali infetti (pare i pipistrelli), è stato scoperto per la prima volta nel 1976, nei pressi del fiume Ebola. L’ex Zaire è sicuramente il Paese maggiormente colpito, il 50% in più rispetto alle altre nazioni.
L’emergere di altri casi potrebbe complicare gli sforzi per sconfiggere il Covid-19, che nel Paese dei Grandi Laghi ha colpito 23.600 persone e fatti 681 morti. Una campagna di vaccinazione dovrebbe iniziare nella prima metà di quest’anno
