L’uso della FFP2 dovrebbe valere per negozi e bus, visite negli ospedali e anche viaggi in auto, se si hanno accanto persone non conviventi. in Italia il dibattito è ancora agli inizi, con lo stesso Crisanti propenso a sostenere questa opzione, ritenendo le mascherine chirurgiche non sufficienti. C’è chi però, come Fabrizio Pregliasco, ritiene non indispensabile l’abbandono della mascherina più comunemente usata, soprattutto dopo la fatica e l’attesa che gli italiani hanno dovuto sopportare per averla a prezzo “stracciato” e in quantità accettabili.

un costo maggiore e in questo momento chi sta in ospedale rappresenta la priorità assoluta. Andare a fare la spesa al grande centro commerciale invece non lo è. Se le FFP2 sono disponibili per tutti, ben venga. Ma in un momento di penuria, la precedenza va agli ospedali”.
