Il sistema di tracciamento dei contatti in Italia ormai è saltato. I numeri sono troppo elevati per permetterne l’efficacia e la percentuale di controllo è diventata ormai poca cosa a fronte dei 30mila nuovi casi che si registrano giornalmente.
Per questo, secondo il virologo Andrea Crisanti, bisognerebbe ricorrere ad altri mezzi, in grado di monitorare i movimenti delle persone. E qui entra in gioco Google.
Il servizio di contact tracing ormai “non ha più senso con i numeri attuali di diffusione del contagio. La percentuale di controllo è ormai così bassa che diventa insignificante”, tanto che attuare o meno il sistema di tracciamento “cambia poco”.
“L’attività di tracciamento – spiega Crisanti in un’intervista al Corriere della Sera – è molto utile solo in due fasi dell’epidemia: all’inizio, quando si vuole evitare che il virus dilaghi, e nel periodo di risoluzione, quando si vuole consolidare il risultato raggiunto”.
Ma ora, con numeri di contagi così elevati, il tracciamento non basta più: “Ora conviene fare un monitoraggio dei flussi, dei movimenti delle persone fra regioni e un monitoraggio dei luoghi e delle ore di assembramento”, suggerisce il virologo. Si tratta, però, di dati che non sono nelle disponibilità della collettività.
Contact tracing, la proposta di Crisanti
Come fare allora a reperire questi dati? “Bisognerebbe chiederli a chi li ha”, spiega Crisanti.
Cioè i “giganti del web”, da Google a Facebook, fino a Instagram e Whatsapp, che conoscono in tempo reale la posizione di chi usa questi social attraverso il proprio smartphone.
Il virologo spiega come potrebbe funzionare un monitoraggio di questo genere: “Banalizzo, se io so che in una certa area è a rischio, posso vedere i movimenti di tutte le persone, che siano contagiate o meno, di quella zona, chessò, lavoratori che magari si spostano in un’altra città, e in questo modo riesco a individuare potenziali cluster. Le possibilità del sistema sono enormi”.
La banca dati di Google, quindi, dovrebbe essere messa a disposizione, perché “i dati in movimento di milioni di persone potrebbero servire a contenere l’epidemia“.
La situazione del contagio in Italia è preoccupante e, per diverse settimane, “viaggeremo sui 30/40 mila casi, grazie a queste misure. Il problema vero è il dopo”. E Crisanti avverte: “Non ci sarà nessuna ripresa economica se non si ferma l’epidemia”.
Per questo, una delle soluzioni proposte potrebbe essere proprio il monitoraggio degli spostamenti, che andrebbe accompagnato a un “potenziamento della struttura di sorveglianza, come andava fatto durante il primo lockdown. Perché con la capacità attuale non ce la faremo mai”.
Infine, il virologo mette in guardia: “Parliamoci chiaro: se non usiamo questi mesi di chiusura per creare una struttura che aumenti drammaticamente la capacità di fare tamponi e nel contempo studi dei protocolli per fare il tracciamento, il tutto collegato a strumenti informatici, come l’analisi dei flussi, e a Immuni, non ne usciamo. E se non lo facciamo, la terza ondata è molto probabile. Insomma, ci vuole un piano strategico complessivo”.
Le polemiche dopo la proposta di Crisanti
Il web ha già risposto alla proposta di Crisanti di utilizzare i big data e le posizioni degli utenti.
“Ma crede di vivere nel regime cinese?” o “Bella proposta del… invadere la privacy delle persone e violare qualsiasi forma di libertà indivudale”.
