Aggrappati ai galleggianti nel tentativo di salvarsi: il gommone sui cui stavano cercando di attraversare il Mediterraneo non ha retto, forse, il peso dei tanti che erano a bordo.

Nuovo naufragio di migranti oggi 12 novembre 2020 a circa 30 miglia a nord delle coste libiche di Sabratha.
Testimoni oculare dell’ennesima tragedia sono stati i volontari di Open Arms. L’unica nave umanitaria impegnata in questo momento nell’attività di ricerca e soccorso dei migranti che fuggono dalla Libia e che già nella giornata di ieri aveva soccorso altri 88 disperati.
La segnalazione di un gommone in difficoltà è arrivata alla Ong spagnola in mattinata da parte di uno dei velivoli di Frontex. L’imbarcazione, dice la Guardia Costiera italiana, era in area Sar di responsabilità libica e la Ong è stata contattata in quanto “mezzo più utilmente impiegabile al momento”.
Una volta raggiunto il punto indicato, però, i volontari si sono trovati di fronte una “complicatissima operazione di soccorso“.
Il gommone, dice infatti Open Arms, con a bordo circa cento persone tra le quali alcuni bambini e donne incinte, “aveva ceduto e le persone erano già tutte in acqua, prive di salvagente e di dispositivi di sicurezza“.
Secondo la Guardia Costiera il cedimento è avvenuto durante le operazioni di soccorso.
Un altro soccorso in mare oggi per Open Arms. La ong informa di aver prestato soccorso a “un’altra imbarcazione con 65 persone a bordo”.
Open arms aveva stamani tratto in salvo i superstiti di un naufragio nel Mediterraneo.

Tra le vittime, anche un bambino di sei mesi, e non una bimba come si era appreso in un primo momento, che si chiamava Joseph e veniva dalla Guinea.
Nel triste video pubblicato da Open Arms su Twitter si può notare la disperazione della madre del piccolo Joseph, che urla “Where is my baby?”, in italiano “Dov’è il mio bambino?”.

Nonostante gli enormi sforzi dell’equipe medica una bimba di 6 mesi è venuta a mancare a causa del naufragio. Avevamo chiesto per lei e per altri casi gravi un’evacuazione urgente, da effettuare tra breve, ma non ce l’ha fatta ad aspettare.
