L’Agenzia europea per i medicinali (EMA) ha terminato la propria indagine su AstraZeneca. L’analisi è terminata senza trovare un nesso causale tra i casi di trombosi in generale e l’utilizzo del suo vaccino contro il coronavirus.
Sulla base dell’ampia serie di dati analizzati nell’ultima settimana, l’EMA ha di conseguenza consigliato di riprendere le vaccinazioni con AstraZeneca. Il tutto nei numerosi paesi europei dove erano state sospese, compresa l’Italia.
Ema su AstraZeneca oggi 18 marzo: “Nessun nesso con trombosi cerebrale ma ulteriori analisi per casi estremamente rari”
L’EMA ha però consigliato di aggiungere una nuova avvertenza al vaccino, considerato che ci sono ancora aspetti da chiarire sui casi di trombosi cerebrale, estremamente rari, per i quali occorreranno ulteriori approfondimenti. I rischi sono comunque molto remoti rispetto alle complicazioni che comporta la COVID-19 nei casi più gravi, che si possono rivelare letali. I casi sospetti esaminati di trombosi cerebrale sono stati 18 su circa 20 milioni di somministrazioni del vaccino e l’EMA ha concluso che: “Un nesso causale con la vaccinazione non è stato provato, ma è possibile e richiederà ulteriori analisi”.
Oms, benefici vaccino AstraZeneca molto maggiori dei rischi
I paesi europei dovrebbero continuare a somministrare il vaccino di AstraZeneca contro il Covid-19, in quanto i vantaggi sono molto maggiori dei rischi. E’ l’appello giunto da Hans Kluge, direttore dell’Organizzazione Mondiale per la Sanità (Oms) in Europa, dopo che numerosi nazioni hanno sospeso l’inoculazione in seguito ad alcuni casi di coaguli che si sospetta possano essere legati al siero e nel giorno della decisione dell’Ema. “Al momento, non sappiamo se alcune o tutte queste condizioni siano state causate dal vaccino o da altri fattori coincidenti”, ha dichiarato Kluge, “in questo momento, ad ogni modo, i benefici del vaccino di AstraZeneca superano di gran lunga i suoi rischi e il suo uso dovrebbe proseguire per salvare vite”.
Von der Leyen: “Rispettare lavoro Ema”
Anche la presidente dell’Ue, Ursula Von der Leyen, ha respinto i dubbi sulla sicurezza del farmaco prodotto da AstraZeneca. Sottolineando che la sua valutazione, prima dell’avvio della campagna vaccinale, “è stata molto rigorosa, mi fido dell’Ema e domani (oggi per chi legge, ndr) chiarirà la situazione”. Lo scenario più probabile è che il regolatore europeo ribadisca la totale affidabilità del vaccino. Raccomandando implicitamente ai sedici governi che hanno deciso per la sospensione di riprendere le somministrazioni. È però anche possibile che venga aggiunta una qualche raccomandazione nel cosiddetto “bugiardino”. Anche le autorità sanitarie italiane hanno espresso la loro più convinta fiducia sul positivo esito della vicenda.
Draghi: campagna vaccinale va avanti a prescindere da decisione Ema
Oggi il presidente del consiglio Mario Draghi, intervenuto a Bergamo per celebrare la prima giornata della memoria delle vittime del Covid, ha precisato che qualsiasi sia la decisione di Ema la campagna vaccinale proseguirà. “Il governo – e lo sapete bene – è impegnato a fare il maggior numero di vaccinazioni nel più breve tempo possibile. Questa è la nostra priorità”. Così il premier Mario Draghi, intervenendo a Bergamo, al parco Martin Lutero alla Trucca, all’inaugurazione del Bosco della Memoria in ricordo delle oltre centomila vittime italiane della pandemia.
“La sospensione del vaccino AstraZeneca, attuata lunedì con molti altri Paesi europei, è stata una decisione temporanea e precauzionale. Nella giornata di oggi, l’Agenzia Europea dei Medicinali darà il suo parere definitivo sulla vicenda. Qualunque sia la sua decisione – assicura dunque il presidente del Consiglio – la campagna vaccinale proseguirà con la stessa intensità, con gli stessi obiettivi. L’incremento nelle forniture di alcuni vaccini aiuterà a compensare i ritardi da parte di altre case farmaceutiche. Abbiamo già preso decisioni incisive nei confronti delle aziende che non mantengono i patti”.
