Salvini lo accusa di aver chiuso l’Italia e buttato la chiave, ma Roberto Speranza schiva lo scontro politico e va avanti sulla linea del rigore. Per il ministro della Salute le restrizioni (e i vaccini) sono l’unica salvezza e non cambierà strada: «Salvini? Non faccio mai polemica, ma penso che nessuno dovrebbe soffiare sul fuoco dell’inquietudine, del tormento di tanti italiani. Di fronte alla difesa della salute dobbiamo unire il Paese e non dividerlo, perché la battaglia è ancora complicata».
I cittadini sono stremati.
«Vedo bene che un bel pezzo di Paese è in forte sofferenza. Sono consapevole che ogni mia scelta provoca un sacrificio e che ci sono settori in grande difficoltà, per cui ritengo che sostegni economici mirati siano fondamentali. Ma la maggior parte degli italiani capisce che queste misure, per quanto costose e dolorose, sono necessarie e io le assumo con animo sereno. Tutelare la vita non è un lavoro sporco, ho giurato sulla Costituzione per questo».
Il decreto che chiude l’Italia fino al 30 aprile è una vittoria sua o di Salvini?
«Sono scettico su questi derby tra rigoristi e aperturisti, il quadro è ancora molto serio e il punto è adeguare le misure alla situazione epidemiologica. La principale preoccupazione sono le varianti, quella inglese è arrivata all’86,7% di prevalenza e ha una capacità diffusiva maggiore del 37% rispetto al ceppo originario. Le misure rigorose sono una risposta necessaria, come scrive l’ISS».
Perché si è battuto per chiudere i ristoranti, visto che la situazione è diversa tra una regione e un’altra
«I nostri scienziati ritengono che con queste varianti le zone gialle non siano in grado di piegare la curva. Potranno tornare solo quando avremo raggiunto un livello sufficiente di vaccinazioni».
Salvini non si fida di lei: il suo rigorismo è ideologico?
«Se sono ideologico io, lo sono anche Merkel, Macron e tutti i ministri della Salute del mondo costretti a firmare restrizioni. Qui l’ideologia non c’entra nulla, ogni misura è ponderata sulla base dei dati scientifici. Fidiamoci della scienza, che ci ha sempre guidati in questo anno difficile».
Lega e Fi vogliono un «tagliando» a metà aprile e faranno leva sulla mediazione di Draghi per riaprire i ristoranti. Lei si opporrà?
«Nel decreto non c’è nessun automatismo, c’è l’impegno a valutare costantemente i dati, come facciamo ogni settimana. Il presidente Draghi sta tenendo una posizione di grande realismo e pragmatismo, vuole programmare con fiducia il futuro, ma fronteggiando duramente l’epidemia. Dobbiamo avere il coraggio della verità, non illudere le persone. Abbiamo 3700 letti di terapia intensiva occupati, un dato molto alto che deve diminuire».
La gente vuole tornare a vivere. Perché non fissate una data per le riaperture?
«Dobbiamo dire la verità, non possiamo suscitare illusioni che finiscono per rivelarsi un boomerang. Io però sono ottimista, grazie ai sacrifici di queste settimane e all’accelerazione della campagna di vaccinazione, già nella seconda parte della primavera vedremo risultati incoraggianti e staremo meglio».
Speranza per il 15 maggio?
«Non c’è una data in cui tutto magicamente finisce, ci vorrà molta gradualità. La cabina di monitoraggio verifica costantemente l’evoluzione epidemiologia, è probabile che alcuni territori rossi possano passare in arancione. In questo momento parlare di area gialla è sbagliato perché i nostri scienziati ritengono non sia sufficiente a contenere il contagio con questo livello di vaccinazione».
La verità è che bisogna tenere chiuso perché, nonostante gli sforzi di Figliuolo e Curcio, la campagna vaccinale è ancora indietro?
«La vaccinazione è l’arma decisiva per chiudere questa fase così difficile. Abbiamo superato le 280 mila dosi somministrate in un giorno e non c’è dubbio che dobbiamo accelerare ancora di più».
I presidenti delle Regioni respingono le responsabilità e chiedono più dosi.
«Stiamo facendo tutte le pressioni possibili perché le case farmaceutiche rispettino gli impegni. Nella seconda metà di aprile avremo finalmente le prime forniture di Johnson&Johnson, importante perché dà l’immunità con una dose sola. Ci aspettiamo oltre 50 milioni di dosi nel secondo trimestre e 80 nel terzo, che ci consentiranno una vera accelerazione».
Draghi aveva detto che ad aprile saremmo arrivati a 500 mila somministrazioni al giorno. Perché siamo ancora a metà strada?
«Abbiamo firmato intese con medici di medicina generale, specializzandi, specialisti ambulatoriali, odontoiatri e pediatri di libera scelta. Sono 160 mila medici. Ci sono i 270 mila infermieri del SSN che ora possono vaccinare fuori dal loro orario di lavoro e stiamo formando 19 mila farmacisti. Con queste forze spero raggiungeremo al più presto il traguardo delle 500 mila somministrazioni al giorno, indicato dal generale Figliuolo».
Quando gli italiani potranno sentirsi al sicuro?
«È realistico che entro fine estate ogni italiano che lo chieda sia stato vaccinato».
Sul turismo avete fatto arrabbiare sia chi è partito per l’estero e al ritorno dovrà fare la quarantena, sia chi è rimasto. Le sembra giusto che in Italia possa spostarsi solo chi ha una seconda casa?
«Il tema esiste, però i viaggi li abbiamo sempre sconsigliati quando non necessari. La quarantena è un deterrente, ma a partire per l’estero sono poche migliaia di persone, mentre se permettessimo una mobilità nazionale senza vincoli avremmo numeri incontrollabili. Per qualche settimana dovremo fare sacrifici».
