«Tiger Woods è sveglio, reattivo e si sta riprendendo nella sua stanza di ospedale» dopo aver subito lesioni multiple alle gambe nell’incidente stradale di ieri, martedì 23 febbraio: lo hanno reso noto in un messaggio sul suo account Twitter il suo team di medici e la TGR Foundation.
Il campione di golf ha subito «una lunga procedura chirurgica alla parte inferiore della gamba destra e alla caviglia destra».
In particolare, Woods ha riportato fratture esposte alla tibia e al perone, oltre che al piede e alla caviglia e gli «sono stati inseriti una placca, viti e perni».
«Ringraziamo tutti per l’enorme sostegno ed i messaggi ricevuti in questo difficile periodo», viene aggiunto nella nota.
Sono dunque molto gravi le conseguenze dell’incidente d’auto avvenuto su una strada alla periferia della città martedì e lasciano ancora intatti tutti gli interrogativi su quando e se il campione di golf potrà riprendere la sua carriera.
E secondo quanto racconta lo sceriffo di Los Angeles che è intervenuto sul posto, Woods «è stato molto fortunato a sopravvivere».

Tiger Woods auto, la dinamica dell’incidente
L’incidente è avvenuto alle sette e venti di martedì mattina mentre il campione di golf stava viaggiando con la sua auto lungo la Blackhorse Road, la strada che attraversa la zona residenziale di Rancho Palos Verdes, non lontano da Los Angeles.
Tiger, 45 anni, avrebbe perso il controllo della vettura, un Suv Genesis Gv80 della Hyundai mentre stava andando a registrare una trasmissione tv.
Non è ancora chiaro cosa abbia provocato l’incidente: in quel tratto la striscia di asfalto è stretta e segnata da diverse curve.
La macchina di Woods si è capottata e ha terminato la corsa su una fiancata, tra gli arbusti e i cespugli. L’atleta era da solo: un testimone ha dichiarato al sito di gossip Tmz che quando ha lasciato l’hotel e si è messo alla guida del suo Suv Tiger era «molto nervoso, agitato e impaziente» tanto da aver già rischiato di colpire l’auto dell’uomo.
Per estrarlo dalla macchina incidentata è stato necessario l’intervento dei vigili del fuoco.

Tra i mille messaggi di incoraggiamento questa mattina si è aggiunto quello di Barack Obama: «Prego per Tiger Woods e la sua famiglia, per una pronta guarigione del Goat del golf. Se abbiamo imparato qualcosa nel corso degli anni, è non pensare mai che Tiger sia fuori gioco».
Escluso quindi che sia in pericolo di vita, adesso gli interrogativi si concentrano proprio su quando Tiger possa tornare: in questo momento era fermo dopo l’ultimo intervento alla schiena del 23 dicembre. Ha giocato l’ultima volta il 20 dicembre nel campionato PNC a Orlando, Florida, con il figlio dodicenne, Charlie. Woods ha anche una figlia di 13 anni, Samantha.
È la terza volta che è vittima di incidenti stradali. Il più noto avvenne all’alba del Ringraziamento nel 2009, quando con il Suv travolse un idrante per finire poi la corsa contro un albero. Nel maggio 2017, la polizia della Florida lo trovò addormentato al volante di un’auto danneggiata e parcheggiata sul lato della strada.
