Sparatoria Chicago – Il fatto risale al 29 marzo e le forze dell’ordine lo definiscono uno “scontro armato”. A Chicago un poliziotto ha ucciso un ragazzino ispanico di 13 anni, Adam Toledo, in quello che le forze dell’ordine hanno definito uno “scontro armato”. La comunità ispanica chiede giustizia, mentre gli investigatori hanno annunciato che oggi intendono rilasciare il video della sparatoria, così come chiesto anche dal sindaco Lori Lightfoot. 

L’agente coinvolto è stato temporaneamente sospeso dal servizio. La madre del 13enne, Elizabeth Toledo, ha lanciato un appello alla trasparenza da parte della polizia: “Voglio solo sapere cos’è realmente successo al mio bambino”.

Il ragazzino era scomparso da alcuni giorni da casa e la mattina del 29 marzo un agente della polizia lo ha colpito a morte dopo averlo inseguito in un vicolo. La polizia ha raccontato che gli agenti sono stati chiamati intorno alle 2.30 del mattino a un indirizzo di Little Village, quartiere a prevalenza latino-americana nella zona ovest di Chicago, rispondendo a segnalazioni di spari. I poliziotti hanno visto due persone in un vicolo e hanno iniziato a inseguirle.

Uno, un ragazzo di 21 anni, è stato arrestato, mentre un agente che inseguiva Adam ha sparato una volta, colpendolo al petto, e il 13enne è morto sul colpo. Secondo il primo resoconto degli agenti, affermano alcuni media, il ragazzo aveva una pistola. Il sindacato della polizia di Chicago ha affermato che il filmato dimostrerà che la sparatoria era giustificata: “L’agente è scosso dalle circostanze, ma era giustificato. L’autore del reato stava fuggendo dalla polizia con un’arma. Indipendentemente dal fatto che avesse 13 anni”.

“Questa notizia, se è vera, è estremamente inquietante”, ha fatto sapere in un comunicato Adeena Weiss Ortiz, che rappresenta i Toledo: “Sia chiaro, la famiglia condanna la violenza contro la polizia e tutti gli altri membri della comunità”. “Nessuno ha nulla da guadagnare incitando alla violenza – ha sottolineato la madre – Adam era un ragazzo dolce e amorevole. Non avrebbe voluto che nessun altro fosse ferito o morisse in suo nome”.
