“Un incubo” dice Quinn Paczesny al Corriere della Sera.

“Ma non mi fraintenda, l’Italia l’amiamo e sicuramente torneremo”.

“Ora, però, mentalmente e fisicamente cominciamo a stare molto male, non so quanto possiamo andare avanti”.

Queste le parole di uno dei 3 inglesi bloccati in Italia da agosto.

Ma cosa è successo?

Quinn Paczesny, 20 anni, è da cinque settimane in quarantena a Firenze assieme due coetanei, britannici come lui.

Tutti e tre sono risultati positivi al tampone da Covid il 17 agosto dopo aver trascorso il Ferragosto a Venezia.

Da allora sono chiusi in stanze singole, lontani da amici e conoscenti, senza distrazioni o sostegno.

Un calvario che è approdato sulla stampa britannica assieme alle fotografie di cibi “immangiabili e porzioni assolutamente insufficienti”.

“All’inizio pensavamo che la situazione sarebbe durata un paio di settimane e non ci siamo preoccupati”.

“Ora siamo qui da più di un mese e non vediamo via d’uscita”, sottolinea Quinn, di Workshop, nel Nottinghamshire.

Fuori la vita continua. Dentro aumenta l’ansia.

“Io devo cominciare il secondo anno di università a Lincoln, se arrivo in ritardo dovrò rimettermi in pari, potrei perdere l’anno”. 

E sugli amici nella sua stessa situazione: “Rhys (James, 23anni) lavora, insegna musica e lingue, deve tornare”. 

“Will (Castle, 22 anni) fa l’attore a Londra. Ci sentiamo prigionieri“, ha dichiarato Quinn.

I giovani, che nell’arco del confinamento hanno cambiato tre strutture, si trovano all’EurHotel, nei pressi dell’aeroporto di Firenze, per via di cinque tamponi positivi.

Oggi, lunedì, verranno sottoposti al sesto.

“Non abbiamo informazioni. Abbiamo chiesto documenti in inglese che provino almeno la legittimità della struttura, ma non ci è stato fornito nulla, brancoliamo nel buio, quasi come fosse tutto uno scherzo televisivo“.

“Eppure c’è gente che se ne va, li vediamo”.

“Ci è stato detto che per il trasferimento dobbiamo comunicare un indirizzo in Italia dove isolarci, ma non ce l’abbiamo”, ha detto l’inglese.

Ma le autorità sanitarie toscane sembrano smentire la versione degli inglesi: “Sono liberi di tornare a casa quando vogliono“, spiega Renzo Berti, medico e direttore del dipartimento prevenzione Asl Centro.

“Basta che lo chiedano ufficialmente e riempiano un modulo come hanno già fatto alcuni cittadini stranieri, francesi e olandesi, che sono stati rimpatriati”.

“Ovviamente devono essere rispettate delle norme di sicurezza e il viaggio non può avvenire in modo normale, magari con un volo di linea”.

“Ci sono delle norme da rispettare e il viaggio viene concordato con il Paese di origine. Se non vogliono continuare ad essere assistiti gratuitamente dal nostro servizio sanitario basta una firma”, ha concluso Berti.

I tre giovani erano arrivati in Italia il 4 luglio con l’organizzazione Educo per insegnare inglese.

“È stato bellissimo venire qui e poter aiutare ragazzi che hanno sofferto durante il lockdown”, riferisce Quinn.

“E anche per noi è stato un modo di guadagnarci qualcosa e renderci utili piuttosto che stare a casa e chiede i sussidi. È un peccato che l’esperienza sia finita in modo così rovinoso”, conclude.
