Trump sospeso da Twitter – Twitter sospende in via definita l’account di Donald Trump per “il rischio che inciti ulteriormente la violenza“. La rabbia del presidente americano è immediata: prova a usare l’account ufficiale @POTUS, ma Twitter rimuove immediatamente i suoi cinguetti.
E quindi ricorre a un tradizionale comunicato della Casa Bianca. Si dice non sorpreso della sospensione: “Lo avevo previsto. Nel sospendere il mio account vogliono mettermi a tacere, vogliono mettere a tacere voi e i 75 milioni di grandi patrioti che hanno votato per me”, dice Trump. Poi assicura: “non ci metteranno a tacere. Stiamo trattando con vari altri siti e a breve avremo un grande annuncio, nel frattempo stiamo valutando la possibilità di costruire una nostra piattaforma”, aggiunge rivolgendosi ai suoi sostenitori.
La decisione di Twitter sarebbe piovuta inattesa sulla Casa Bianca e avrebbe innervosito ancora di più il presidente, già su tutte le furie per il possibile secondo impeachment. Una messa in stato di accusa che Trump non capisce: “Non ha alcuna intenzione di dimettersi perché non ritiene di aver fatto nulla di sbagliato”, fa trapelare la Casa Bianca. Secondo indiscrezioni, mentre erano in corso gli scontri al Congresso, Trump si aggirava soddisfatto all’interno della Casa Bianca senza capire perché nessuno esultasse con lui per quanto stava accadendo. Non solo: durante l’assalto avrebbe cercato di raggiungere telefonicamente i senatori repubblicani per convincerli a capovolgere il risultato del voto.

La decisione di Twitter di sospenderlo manda su tutte le furie anche il figlio Donald Jr, che parla di libertà di parola “morta con big tech”. E scatena una levata di scudi fra i conservatori. Il senatore repubblicano Rick Scott parla di “vergogna”: “Twitter ha sospeso il presidente Trump ma consente ai cinesi di vantarsi del genocidio e all’ayatollah di parlare sulla possibilità di spazzare via Israele dalle cartine geografiche”, lamenta Scott. Nikki Haley, l’ex ambasciatrice all’Onu e aspirante repubblicana alla Casa Bianca nel 2024, usa parole altrettanto dure: “Mettere a tacere la gente, per non parlare del presidente americano, è quello che succede in Cina, non nel nostro Paese”. Critico anche il New York Post di Rupert Murdoch.
“Twitter è guidata da liberal americani, che mettono sotto esame solo un tipo di persona e solo un’area politica”, mette in evidenza il board editoriale del quotidiano secondo il quale “o la Section 230 – la norma che garantisce l’immunità ai social media, sollevandoli da ogni responsabilità – viene revocata e Twitter si assume la responsabilità di quello che viene twittato, o altrimenti deve fare un passo indietro e lasciare che sia il pubblico a decidere quello che è accettabile e quello che non lo è”. Pur esponendosi a violente critiche, Twitter a deciso di agire nel tentativo di non favorire ulteriori violenze. Nella nota che ha accompagnato la sua decisione spiega infatti che “piani per future proteste armate sono già iniziati a proliferare su Twitter, incluso un proposto secondo attacco al Congresso il 17 gennaio”, pochi giorni prima della cerimonia di insediamento di Joe Biden e mentre Trump sarà ancora alla Casa Bianca. Il presidente infatti è atteso lasciare Washington il 19 gennaio per andare a Mar-a-Lago, in Florida. Il 19 è poi attesa un’ondata di concessioni di grazia parte di Trump, inclusa quella per i figlie e forse anche per se stesso.
