Gorilla Covid – Le positività emerse tra i gorilla dello zoo di San Diego in California fanno discutere. Le ultime notizie sul coronavirus tutte le ultime news dal mondo aggiornate in tempo reale.

Due gorilla dello zoo di San Diego sono risultati positivi al Covid-19 dopo che si sono ammalati, mentre un terzo risulta essere asintomatico.

Lo ha reso noto il governatore della California, Gavin Newsom, in una conferenza stampa, aggiungendo che sono in corso indagini per capire come sia avvenuto il contagio.

Si ritiene siano i primi contagi tra questi primati in cattività.

La direttrice esecutiva del parco, Lisa Peterson, ha detto all’Associated Press che nel gruppo di otto gorilla molti hanno sintomi, in particolare tosse.

Sembra che l’infezione derivi da un membro del personale di assistenza, risultato positivo al virus ma asintomatico.

I veterinari stanno monitorando da vicino i gorilla, che rimarranno nel parco, ha detto Peterson. Mentre altri animali selvatici hanno contratto il coronavirus, dai visoni alle tigri, si ritiene che nessun gorilla sia stato contagiato negli zoo degli Stati Uniti e nel mondo.

Ai gorilla vengono somministrate vitamine, liquidi e cibo, ma nessun trattamento specifico per il virus.

I funzionari dello zoo stanno lavorando a stretto contatto con esperti che hanno curato il coronavirus negli esseri umani, nel caso in cui gli animali sviluppassero sintomi più gravi. “Questa è fauna selvatica, hanno la loro capacità di recupero e possono guarire in modo diverso da noi”, ha detto Peterson, aggiungendo che per ora l’obiettivo è mantenerli “sani e in forze”.
