«Vado avanti con i provini da remoto. Prima mi dicono: ci mandi un “self tape”, un auto registrazione, e poi l’immancabile ‘le faremo sapere’. Ma ormai da un anno non si fa più vivo nessuno». Maria Cristina Maccà ha 53 primavere alle spalle ed è un’attrice a tutto tondo. I numeri del suo curriculum parlano per lei: 37 produzioni tra cinema e tv, e 40 produzioni teatrali. Ha collaborato con Mario Monicelli, Pupi Avati, Carlo Vanzina, Neri Parenti e Paolo Villaggio. Ha interpretato Mariangela e Uga Fantozzi, la figlia e la nipote dell’indimenticabile ragioniere nel penultimo film della saga, «Fantozzi – Il ritorno», 1996.

Ed oggi è tornata a Vicenza a casa della madre settantatreenne perché nella Capitale non ha più un lavoro a causa del Covid. «Ho vissuto a Roma 33 anni. Mi sento più romana che veneta, ma non potevo più restare. Non avevo alternative visto che i teatri, ovvero la mia vita, sono chiusi perché non sono considerati indispensabili e il cinema? Beh, esiste ancora, certo. Ma se prima era difficile ottenere una parte, adesso è davvero un’impresa. La pandemia è stata la mazzata finale a un mondo già fortemente in crisi».

Maria Cristina al telefono appare rassegnata, dice che non si sarebbe mai aspettata un passaggio del genere nella sua vita, ma non rinnega il passato: «Rifarei tutto, forse però me ne andrei all’estero perché qui in Italia la meritocrazia ha lasciato il posto alla mediocrità. E col Covid le cose sono solo peggiorate». I casting da remoto, la regola per le produzioni in questa fase per evitare assembramenti, secondo Maria Cristina, «sono l’anti-cinema. Io sono sempre stata abituata a rapportarmi con i registi. Mi hanno scelto o scartato guardandomi negli occhi».

La sua ultima apparizione sul palcoscenico risale al novembre 2019 al Teatro Eliseo, dopo il buio. «Lavoro da quando a 15 anni trasportavo i pacchi in un magazzino di abbigliamento. Non ho mai chiesto nulla a mia madre. Mi sono sempre sostenuta da sola, lavoravo anche quando ero una studentessa dell’Accademia Silvio D’Amico (tra le più prestigiose in Italia, ndr)».

E adesso? «Vado avanti con i risparmi che ho accumulato negli anni, ma quanto può durare? Ho paura di finire sotto un ponte». Gli aiuti dallo Stato sono arrivati, ma non bastano: «Con 600 euro per qualche mese non si può pensare di campare. E poi non voglio sussidi, ma solo tornare a fare l’attrice». Maria Cristina ha collaborato per anni con il Teatro dei Documenti, ideato da Luciano Damiani. «Sono disposta a fare altro, a ripartire daccapo. Anche se non sono più giovanissima il coraggio e la grinta non mi mancano».

Prima di riattaccare, il pensiero va ai grandi maestri: «Il cinema e il teatro prima erano un’altra cosa, non si finiva mai di imparare. Ora è diverso perché ci si dimentica presto di tutti. Speriamo che post pandemia si ritorni ad apprezzare il talento. Anche Paolo Villaggio nei suoi ultimi anni di vita ha fatto fatica». Fantozzi oggi? Maccà non ha dubbi: «Se lo immagina il ragioniere che indossa la mascherina? Sarebbe sicuramente record di incassi».
