“Gli inglesi sapevano già da settembre che era in circolazione questa variante. Hanno taciuto, non ci hanno avvertito. Ora serve il lockdown. O comunque misure molto severe”.
In un’intervista a ‘Il Messaggero’ il consulente del ministero della Salute Walter Ricciardi spiega che “la nuova variante non è più letale, ma circola con una velocità più alta anche del 70-80%” ma non sembra alterata “la capacità protettiva del vaccino”.
“In queste condizioni – dice ancora – sarà difficile riaprire le scuole il 7 gennaio. A Natale si rischia una nuova impennata”. Intanto i voli dal Regno Unito, sostiene, vanno chiusi in tutta Europa: “Di fronte a questa nuova variante che probabilmente è già in Italia, temo che chiusure severe siano inevitabili”.
Secondo Ricciardi le misure decise per le Feste non bastano: “La circolazione del virus è intensa, il numero di infetti è alto. Le misure di contenimento devono durare di più. Almeno un mese, un mese e mezzo” inoltre “quello che non funziona è la fretta con cui si passa da un colore all’altro”.
“La stragrande maggioranza degli italiani – dice ancora – rispetta le regole. Però c’è un 10-20% per cento, non incline a modifiche del proprio comportamento”.
Ricciardi parla poi di vaccini: “Di AstraZeneca sappiamo che hanno due protocolli: uno con ‘dose piena-dose piena’ che ha una protezione intorno al 70%, e uno ‘mezzadose-dose piena’ al 90, che però deve essere consolidato da una sperimentazione di fase 3 e serviranno altri mesi. Potrebbero registrare il primo protocollo, che comunque ci darebbe un altro vaccino con una protezione importante, con molte milioni di dosi”.
Un’ipotesi: “Pfizer e Moderna agli anziani, AstraZeneca ai più giovani. L’importante è avere più armi: Johnson&Johnson dovrebbe essere pronto a primavera ed è interessante, perché è monodose”.
