“Con un’altra pandemia come questa non ce la facciamo a resistere”. E’ il messaggio che lancia Ilaria Capua, direttore del One Health Center of Excellence della Florida University, intervenendo all’inaugurazione dell’anno accademico 2020-2021 dell’università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca.
“Credo sia importante che si lavori in maniera circolare”, ha spiegato ancora Capua, per comunicare a tutti “che determinati rischi, come il rischio pandemico, esistono. Bill Gates lo ha detto forte e chiaro nel 2015 e non lo ha ascoltato nessuno“. Per Capua, “dobbiamo reinventarci la comunicazione con chi prende le decisioni, perché non è che non lo sapevamo che sarebbe accaduta una cosa così”.
Quindi ha concluso: “Abbiamo imparato, stiamo imparando e sta arrivando il vaccino. Questo è un momento di grande trasformazione, usiamolo per desiderare di essere in un posto diverso quando saremo fuori da questo pasticcio. Questo è un momento in cui bisogna muoversi in maniera rapida ed efficace, possiamo imparare molto dagli altri”.
“La pandemia si è manifestata come uno stress test multiplo che ha evidenziato le fragilità di alcuni sistemi. Noi dobbiamo correre non per ricostruirli come erano prima ma correre con il cervello e con l’innovazione tecnologica e nuove prospettive”, ha ammonito Capua.

Quanto alla città di Milano, “ha sofferto, è stata lacerata – ha osservato – io dico che è città che ha sofferto immensamente. Il sindaco Sala ha detto che la città deve essere reinventata e dobbiamo farlo con schemi nuovi che devono venire dalla parte pensante della città, quindi dall’università”.
“Milano-Bicocca – ha aggiunto – è molto concentrata su determinati temi e approcci. Io vorrei che per questa università, che ha reagito in una situazione molto difficile con grande coraggio, questo fosse un momento da cui possano partire piccoli segni. Rilancio agli studenti che ci ascoltano: ora è il momento in cui possiamo reinventare delle cose. La pandemia ha reso l’impossibile possibile”.
