«Mi sentivo un po’ imprigionato e questo viaggio per me – ha confessato Francesco- è un rivivere, toccare la Chiesa e i popoli. Un prete si fa prete per servire, al servizio del popolo di Dio, non per carrierismo e soldi. Io ho paura che noi sacerdoti non abbiamo questa vicinanza gratuita al popolo di Dio che è quello che ci salva, è la salvezza dalla lebbra della cupidigia e della superbia. Non perdere l’ appartenenza al popolo di Dio per diventare casta consacrata».
La devastazione di Mosul
«Non immaginavo le rovine di Mosul, non lo immaginavo, sì, avevo visto le cose» ma essere sul posto è stato «toccante», «da non credere, la crudeltà umana, la nostra» ha detto il Papa nella conferenza stampa sul volo da Baghdad a Roma. «Chi vende le armi? Chi è responsabile? Spero che abbiano la sincerità di dire: noi vendiamo le armi». «Ma quello che più mi ha toccato è stata la testimonianza di una donna a Qaraqosh che nei primi bombardamenti del Daesh ha perso il figlio. Lei ha detto una parola: perdono. E io mi sono commosso perché questa parola l’abbiamo persa. Sappiamo insultare alla grande, sappiamo condannare alla grande, io per primo, ma perdonare i nemici, questo è Vangelo puro».
L’incontro con Al Sistani: «Mi sono sentito onorato»
Il Pontefice ha risposto alla domanda su a come mai avesse preso la decisione di fare un viaggio in piena pandemia: «Ho pregato tanto e alla fine ho preso la decisione liberamente, ma che veniva dal profondo». «Ho preso la decisione dopo la preghiera, con la consapevolezza dei rischi» ha aggiunto il Papa. «Sentivo il dovere di questo pellegrinaggio di fede e di penitenza, di andare a trovare Al Sistani, un grande, un saggio, un uomo di Dio: lui è una persona che ha saggezza e prudenza. Mi diceva: `Da dieci anni non ricevo gente che viene visitarmi ma con altri scopi, politici, culturali’».«Mi sono sentito onorato, anche nel saluto mai si alza. Si è alzato per salutarmi due volte», «a me ha fatto bene all’anima questo incontro, è una luce» ha detto Francesco.
Il dialogo con l’Islam
Il dialogo con le religioni, e tra queste l’Islam, è una delle prerogative del pontificato di Francesco. E lo scopo del viaggio in Iraq è avvenuto proprio nel solco della «fratellanza umana» «Tante volte si deve rischiare per fare questo passo – afferma Bergoglio – e ci sono alcune critiche: `Il Papa non è coraggioso, è un incosciente, sta facendo dei passi contro la dottrina cattolica, è a un passo dall’eresia´. Ma queste decisioni – continua – si prendono sempre in preghiera, in dialogo, non sono un capriccio e sono anche la linea che il Concilio ci ha insegnato».
A chi gli chiedeva se anche con il mondo sciita si arriverà a firmare un documento come quello di Abu Dhabi, firmato con Al-Tayyebb, il Papa ha fatto presente che era stato «preparato con il Grand Imam in segreto durante sei mesi, pregando , riflettendo», è stato «un primo passo» e l’incontro con il leader sciita Al-Sistani a Najaf è stato «il secondo e ce ne saranno altri, è importante il cammino della fratellanza». L’incontro «è stato un messaggio universale».
L’«ipotesi» di un viaggio in Libano
Per il Libano c’è una «ipotesi» è una «promessa di viaggio» annuncia il Pontefice. E aggiunge: «Il Libano è un messaggio, il Libano soffre, il Libano è più di un equilibrio, ha la debolezza delle diversità, alcune ancora non riconciliate, ma ha la fortezza del grande popolo riconciliato, come la fortezza dei cedri. Il patriarca Rai mi ha chiesto per favore durante questo viaggio di fare una sosta a Beirut, ma mi è sembrato un po’ poco… Una briciola davanti a un problema, a un Paese che soffre come il Libano. Gli ho scritto una lettera, ho fatto la promessa di fare un viaggio». «Ma il Libano in questo momento è in crisi, ma in crisi – non voglio offendere – in crisi di vita», ha osservato Bergoglio.
La dignità delle donne
Il Pontefice ha lanciato anche un messaggio per le donne: «Dobbiamo lottare per la loro dignità: sono più coraggiose degli uomini, portano avanti la storia e questa non è una esagerazione, non è un complimento perché oggi è la Festa delle donne». Il Pontefice ha ricordato la `lista dei prezzi´ delle donne stilata dall’Isis. «Non potevo credere». E ha aggiunto: «Le donne si vendono e si schiavizzano anche nel centro di Roma».
