Il lavoro del team di esperti dell’Organizzazione mondiale della Sanità, arrivato oltre tre settimane in Cina per indagare sulla nascita della pandemia di Coronavirus, è terminato. Tuttavia, resta ancora il giallo sull’origine del virus, che, se è certo “che sia di origine animale, quest’ultimo non è ancora stato identificato“, cioè non è ancora chiaro quale sia “l’esemplare ospite”. È quanto gli scienziati hanno annunciato nel corso di una conferenza stampa che si è tenuta questa mattina a Wuhan, primo epicentro mondiale di Covid-19.
“Pipistrelli e pangolini sono i più probabili candidati alla trasmissione, ma i campioni di coronavirus trovati in quelle specie non sono identici al Sars-Cov-2″, ha spiegato il professor Lian Wannian, a capo della delegazione di 17 esperti cinesi che ha affiancato la missione dell’Oms. Il quale ha anche aggiunto che “l’elevata suscettibilità di visoni e gatti al Sars-Cov-2 suggerisce che potrebbero esserci altri animali che fungono da serbatoio, ma la ricerca è insufficiente”.
Particolare questo confermato anche dal capo della missione dell’Oms a Wuhan, Peter Ben Embarek: “Tutti i dati che abbiamo raccolto sin qui ci portano a concludere che l’origine del Coronavirus è animale”, ha detto nel corso della conferenza stampa. Aggiungendo poi: “Il lavoro sul campo su quello che è successo all’inizio della pandemia non ha stravolto le convinzioni che avevamo prima di cominciare. I dati puntano verso i pipistrelli, ma è improbabile che questi animali si trovassero a Wuhan. Non è ancora possibile individuare l’intermediario animale per il Covid”.

Gli esperti hanno quindi sottolineato come la “possibilità che la diffusione del nuovo coronavirus derivi da un incidente collegato a un laboratorio sia estremamente improbabile“. Embarek a tal proposito ha raccomandato di non condurre ulteriori studi. Embarek ha anche aggiunto che “sappiamo che il virus può sopravvivere nei cibi surgelati, ma non sappiamo ancora se da questi si può trasmettere all’uomo. Su questo servono più ricerche”.
Epidemia forse scoppiata prima dei casi a Wuhan
Inoltre, è possibile, secondo quanto esaminato dal gruppo di esperti, che “potrebbe esserci stata una circolazione non dichiarata del Coronavirus in altre regioni prima di Wuhan. Secondo la revisione della letteratura pertinente relativa alla ricerca sui dati, si parla addirittura di settimane prima. Quindi entro la fine del 2019, dalla rilevazione dei primi casi nella capitale dell’Hubei da cui è partito l’allarme. Anche il mercato Huanan a Wuhan, che è stato il primo luogo ad essere identificato in cui è scoppiato il Covid-19, non è stato l’unico. La trasmissione si è verificata anche altrove nella stessa città e nello stesso periodo. Dunque, il lavoro congiunto in Cina del team di esperti dell’Oms e di Pechino è terminato con tante domande ancora prive di risposte. Ma le operazioni di tracciamento dell’origine del Covid-19 non si fermano ed anzi procederanno nel resto del mondo “non vincolate ad alcuna località”.
