Santiago Morales. Questo il nome del bambino che è riuscito, a soli 4 anni d’età, a sconfiggere un bruttissimo male: il cancro.
Santiago ha dovuto combattere per 93 sedute di chemioterapia, tra l’altro effettuate durante l’emergenza che ha sconvolto il mondo: la pandemia da Covid-19.
“Siamo in una fase in cui non si può credere che il trattamento sia finito completamente, che non dovrà più fare chemioterapia, che non soffrirà più, che non piangerà più, che è del tutto fuori dalla malattia”, ha raccontato il padre del piccolo, Ricardo Morales, ai microfoni di Telemundo.
L’orrenda diagnosi di leucemia, annunciata nel gennaio 2020, ha sconvolto i genitori del piccolo Santiago, descritto come un bambino “sano e molto attivo”.
A causa della crisi sanitaria dovuta alla pandemia, le restrizioni in ospedale hanno reso ancora più complicata la situazione che la famiglia Morales stava attraversando.
Entrambi i genitori non potevano stare nella stessa stanza del piccolo e non potevano ricevere visite per condividere il loro dolore e le loro preoccupazioni.
Tuttavia, questo non ha fermato il piccolo ma tenace Santiago.
Infatti, dopo 8 mesi di trattamento, 30 giorni in ospedale e 93 cicli di chemioterapia, il bambino ha superato la malattia ed è stato dimesso.
Per ora Santiago è in remissione ma, nonostante ciò, dovrà sottoporsi a controlli medici per i prossimi 2 anni prima di affermare ufficialmente di essere libero dal cancro.
