Apparteneva a una nobile famiglia lituana, i Giedroyć , che condivideva le sue origini con la più famosa famiglia Radziwiłł.
Nacque a Slobodishe (Oryol guberniya), in un ambiente russificato e ha studiato chirurgia all’Università di Losanna, nella clinica del professor César Roux. La malattia dei suoi genitori e la morte della sorella portarono Gedroits a tornare in Russia nel 1900.
Il suo lavoro in laparotomia durante la guerra russo-giapponese è stato tra i primi a raggiungere alti livelli di successo. Ciò ha spinto i militari russi ad adottare la procedura e ha fatto cambiare l’idea del trattamento corretto delle ferite addominali penetranti.

Nel 1909, Gedroits fu trasferita all’ospedale di corte di Tsárskoye Seló , dove lavorò come chirurgo per la famiglia imperiale. In quel periodo si unì alla Gilda dei Poeti, pubblicando le sue poesie sotto lo pseudonimo di Sergei Gedroits.
