Variante Covid Campania – Nella giornata del 26 dicembre a Napoli è sbarcato un aereo da Londra. La Regione Campania ha intercettato tra i passeggeri presenti 6 positivi alla nuova variante Covid. Ad annunciarlo è stato il presidente Vincenzo De Luca tramite questo comunicato stampa:
“CORONAVIRUS: sei passeggeri provenienti dal Regno Unito sono risultati positivi alla cosiddetta variante inglese del Covid-19 perché presentano le mutazioni del gene S tipiche di questa variante. La notizia è emersa a seguito del lavoro svolto dai ricercatori dell’Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale del Mezzogiorno, in sinergia con Tigem e Ceinge. In corso ulteriori studi in stretta collaborazione con i ricercatori dell’Istituto Spallanzani”.
“Da domenica 20, infatti, tutti i passeggeri provenienti dal Regno Unito, sono stati sottoposti a tampone nasofaringeo molecolare e i positivi sono stati prontamente individuati e monitorati. Immediatamente, è stato effettuato il sequenziamento per accertare se il ceppo appartenesse alla variante inglese. Dopo l’incessante lavoro dei ricercatori, è emerso che 6 presentano le mutazioni del gene S tipiche della variante”.

“Lo studio rientra nel progetto Gencovid, partito dalla Regione Campania nei primi mesi della pandemia con l’obiettivo di studiare in maniera approfondita il virus attraverso la tempestività di campionamento sul territorio, l’identificazione dei focolai e la ricostruzione filogenetica del virus e della sua diffusione. Un boarding scientifico dei migliori enti di ricerca campani che, grazie alla sinergia dei ricercatori, ha consentito alla Regione Campania di individuare e sequenziare circa 2000 campioni nelle varie fasi della pandemia, dati che tra pochi giorni saranno pubblicati sulla piattaforma internazionale Gisaid e messi a disposizione della comunità scientifica internazionale. Gencovid nasce dall’Izsm che, con 400.000 tamponi analizzati nei laboratori di Portici e con unità operative specializzate, ha consentito interventi mirati e immediati nella gestione delle emergenze”.
“Una volta estratto e preparato l’Rna, il Tigem eccellenza italiana per la biologia molecolare si è occupata del sequenziamento, una ulteriore aliquota di campione, in collaborazione con i ricercatori del CEINGE, è stata inoltre utilizzata per isolare i ceppi virali e testare sperimentalmente in vitro, su modelli cellulari, l’efficacia di diverse molecole con potenziale attività inibente della capacità replicativa del virus”.
“L’individuazione dei sei casi positivi è successiva all’ordinanza della Regione con la quale si sono bloccati i voli provenienti dal Regno Unito immediatamente dopo la notizia della scoperta della nuova variante. Proseguirà nei prossimi giorni un lavoro attento di controllo e di filtro rispetto agli arrivi e sulla evoluzione dell’epidemia, per garantire al massimo le condizioni di sicurezza. È di grande importanza scientifica e di grande supporto per il lavoro che verrà, questa indagine sviluppata dai nostri centri di eccellenza nell’ambito della ricerca finanziata dalla Regione nel mese di marzo”.
