Vaccine Day, il carabiniere che ha preso in custodia le dosi: “Ho rinunciato al Natale per dare il vaccino agli italiani”

Vaccine Day – Celestino Piccirillo, 40 anni, sposato, con due bambini, maresciallo capo dei carabinieri. E’ lui che al comando di quattro uomini dell’Arma, tutti della squadra operativa di supporto del Sesto Battaglione Toscana, è andato fino al valico del Brennero per prendere in custodia le preziose fiale del vaccino anti Covid–19. Le prime. La spedizione è partita il 25 dicembre. Piccirillo ha rilasciato una intervista ai microfoni de Il Mattino. Ecco alcune delle sue dichiarazioni riportate dall’edizione online del quotidiano:

«Sinceramente non mi aspettavo questo incarico. Noi carabinieri siamo abituati a contrastare la criminalità, quando veniamo investiti di compiti cosi nobili è davvero stupendo, gratificante. Portare le prime dosi di vaccino è stato un onore e un bel regalo di Natale per il Paese» 

Com’è andato quel giorno?

«Sono stato chiamato il 24 dicembre dal mio comandante. Ho detto in famiglia che l’indomani non sarei stato con loro. Ho guardato i bimbi, erano dispiaciuti perché il loro babbo sarebbe andato via per Natale. Allora gli ho spiegato che fare il carabiniere è aiutare gli altri e loro hanno capito».

A lei sarà dispiaciuto?

«Certo ma quello che io e miei colleghi abbiamo fatto ci ha ripagato nell’anima. E’ vero il ringraziamento lo riceviamo dai nostri comandanti fa piacere, ma devo dire che è ancora più gratificante quando i cittadini ti dicono grazie, chi è carabiniere lo sa».

Il 25 dicembre cosa è accaduto?

«Siamo andati in quattro con due auto, una in anticipo e l’altra che segue. Il mio gruppo è preparato per agire in situazioni di rischio. Noi siamo una squadra addestrata ad intervenire in caso di attentati. Questi vaccini sono particolarmente ambiti, hanno un valore nel mercato nero. Non bisogna escludere che qualcuno voglia rubarli».

Poi l’arrivo a Roma

«Siamo arrivati al Valico che si registravano meno 6 gradi, abbiamo scortato il furgone. Durante il tragitto ci sono state delle soste per far riposare l’autista. Il motore del mezzo doveva rimanere sempre acceso altrimenti il frigo si sarebbe spento e i vaccini si sarebbero rovinati. Alle 19.00 siamo arrivati alla caserma Salvo D’Acquisto e lì diversi comandanti in divisa ci hanno salutato militarmente, è stata una soddisfazione».
