Ricciardi svela le novità dal Regno Unito – Walter Ricciardi, professore all’Università Cattolica e consigliere del Ministero della Salute avverte: abbiamo poco tempo per fermare la diffusione delle varianti di Sars-CoV-2. Ecco le sue parole in un’intervista riportata dall’edizione online de Il Mattino:

«Lo sto ripetendo da tempo: bisogna prepararsi, organizzarsi, considerare tutte le Regioni in fascia rossa per prevenire la diffusione delle varianti, specialmente quella inglese. E allo stesso tempo è necessario accelerare sul serio con le vaccinazioni, fino ad oggi abbiamo giocato all’oratorio, ora bisogna essere al livello della Champions League. E serve una persona che si occupi solo di questo, 24 ore su 24».

Da Umbria e Abruzzo giungono notizie preoccupanti sulla diffusione delle varianti. Mettere tutte le Regioni oggi in fascia rossa non sarebbe tardivo?
«Io lo sto dicendo da ottobre. Più passa il tempo, più aspettiamo a decidere, più le misure necessarie saranno lunghe e dannose per l’economia».

Le informazioni dal Regno Unito sono così drammatiche?
«Sì, il sistema sanitario è in crisi. E ci sono quattro studi che sostanzialmente concordano nel dire che la variante inglese è più letale. Rispetto a un morto causato dal ceppo originario, l’incidenza per la variante è ipotizzata all’1,3 secondo una ricerca, altri arrivano a 1,7. Non è tantissimo, ma è lievemente più letale».

I vaccini funzioneranno?
«Hanno confermato che funzionano, per questo il Regno Unito ha accelerato, sta vaccinando a tutto spiano. L’ho scritto anche su Twitter: dal Regno Unito mi confermano che la variante si diffonde nei giovani più che la precedente, è ancora neutralizzata dai vaccini disponibili, sta ulteriormente mutando: bisogna fare presto con le vaccinazioni».

Lei ha sempre invitato a restare calmi perché le dosi di vaccini arriveranno a sufficienza anche in Italia.
«Ma sì, io sono convinto che da aprile in poi non ci saranno problemi di vaccini a disposizione. Però resta il problema dell’organizzazione e dobbiamo prepararci bene in tutta Italia, non solo in alcune zone. Dobbiamo correre. Ora».

Qualche giorno fa, sul nostro giornale, lei ha proposto di affidare a Guido Bertolaso la responsabilità di seguire direttamente la campagna vaccinale in tutto il Paese.
«Esatto. Penso che ci voglia un figura che abbia competenze tecniche, scientifiche e gestionali. E deve essere una persona che si occupi solo della campagna vaccinale».
