Intervista Crisanti – Le dichiarazioni del professor Andrea Crisanti sulla gestione della pandemia da Covid in Italia. Tutte le ultime notizie aggiornate dall’Italia e dal mondo tutte le ultime news 24 ore su 24.

Il 21 febbraio dell’anno scorso a Vo’ Euganeo si registrò il primo morto italiano per Covid-19 e questo paese del Padovano, di poco più di 3mila abitanti, fu dichiarato “zona rossa”. La gestione dell’epidemia a Vo’ affidata al virologo Andrea Crisanti, professore di microbiologia dell’Università di Padova, e basata su tracciamento e tamponi a tappeto, divenne un modello.


A distanza di un anno, il giudizio del microbiologo su come è stata gestita la pandemia in Italia è impietoso e le sue parole non sono incoraggianti né sull’efficacia del piano vaccinale avviato, né sulla effettiva capacità di debellare il virus con le misure a zone fino ad ora adottate.


E non ultimo, Crisanti, considerato tra i più autorevoli esperti nel suo campo, boccia categoricamente anche la riapertura degli impianti di risalita e delle piste da sci nelle “zone gialle” autorizzata dal Cts dalla metà di febbraio, che rischia di far tornare a galoppare il virus.


Professore Crisanti, il Trentino ha fatto la scelta di utilizzare in modo massiccio i test rapidi sui sintomatici. Il risultato è che, ad esempio, a novembre si sono avuti 6.545 positivi al molecolare e altri 13.300 positivi al tampone antigenico, che però non sono figurati nei dati ufficiali richiesti da Roma e che per questo abbiamo definito “fantasma”. Secondo lei se fossero stati contati anche questi positivi non saremmo rimasti “zona gialla”?
“È probabile, ma è difficile da dire. Non è che si può riscrivere la storia. I dati richiesti e trasmessi sono stati quelli e così è andata”.

Rimane il problema dell’affidabilità dei metodi di ricerca dei positivi e di come vengono conteggiati. Non pensa?
“Io ho sempre avuto molte riserve sull’uso degli antigenici. Secondo me non dovrebbero essere usati se non per scopi ben precisi: come il monitoraggio nelle classi o qualche campionamento su popolazioni a intervalli regolari, ma sicuramente non per fare diagnosi e tanto meno come prevenzione o lasciapassare sociale, ad esempio per lo screening degli operatori sanitari o delle Rsa”.

In Trentino vengono usati soprattutto su chi ha sintomi.
“Sui sintomatici ha senso. Gli antigenici hanno una sensibilità ridotta, ma i sintomatici hanno una carica virale elevata, quindi tutto sommato va bene”.

Dal 17 febbraio in Trentino si potranno riaprire le piste da sci e gli impianti di risalita. Secondo lei è un rischio che possiamo permetterci di correre o è meglio tenere chiuso?
“Il rischio ha due componenti: una è l’intensità del danno provocato e l’altra è la probabilità. L’intensità sta nel fatto che la trasmissione virale riprenda in Trentino e da qui si possa diffondere in altre parti d’Italia, la probabilità misura la possibilità che il rischio si concretizzi. È chiaro che in presenza di una trasmissione già elevata in Italia, l’apertura degli impianti sicuramente aumenta la probabilità che ci sia trasmissione, perché intorno agli impianti ci sono bar, rifugi, ristoranti e indotto che si affollano. A fine mese si vedrebbero i risultati. Non credo che sarebbero aperture a lungo termine”.

Quindi è meglio non aprire affatto?
“Sa io cosa farei? Prenderei le dichiarazioni dei redditi di tutti quanti e gli darei l’80% di quello che hanno dichiarato per stare chiusi”.

Lei consentirebbe invece di spostarsi da una regione all’altra?
“Sì, non mi sembra un grande problema. Le persone già si spostano per motivi di lavoro”.

Le varianti del virus che si iniziano a trovare anche in Italia, quanto ci devono preoccupare? Ci ritroveremo presto a chiudere tutto come in altri Paesi europei?
“Le varianti hanno due tipi di impatto. Quelle che aumentano la trasmissibilità del virus, come quella inglese, hanno l’impatto sul valore soglia dell’immunità di gregge e quindi sul numero delle persone che bisogna vaccinare per arrivare a un blocco della trasmissione. Invece di vaccinare il 70% serve l’80%, quindi richiede un impegno maggiore. Altre varianti (come la brasiliana) invece neutralizzano gli anticorpi indotti dal vaccino. E sono più preoccupanti”.


Vuol dire che i vaccini che abbiamo non funzionano per questa variante?
“Vuol dire che si deve aggiornare il vaccino, ma intanto si può dare quello che abbiamo e quando insorgono focolai con queste varianti si interviene con restrizioni dure, zone rosse rigidissime, per evitarne la diffusione”.


Ma in Italia si stanno cercando le varianti secondo lei?
“Serve un sistema di sorveglianza e controllo delle varianti che adesso non c’è. Non c’è nulla. Recentemente l’Istituto superiore di sanità ha messo in campo un’iniziativa velleitaria, perché senza linee guida è quattrini è chiaro che non funziona”.


Quindi rischiamo di ritrovarci pieni di casi come la Gran Bretagna?
“Sì, l’introduzione della variante inglese è solo una questione di tempo, a meno che non venga implementato rapidamente un piano di sorveglianza e controllo”.


Tornando al piano vaccinale, le sembra realistico che si arrivi a vaccinare 20 milioni di italiani entro giugno?
“In un mese e mezzo abbiamo vaccinato un milione di persone, se andiamo di questo passo ci vorranno 4 anni. La vedo veramente difficile, ma voglio farmi sorprendere”.


A un anno dal primo morto per Covid-19 a Vo’ Euganeo, ci dice cosa pensa di come è stata gestita la pandemia in Italia?
“Ho assistito impotente a una serie di errori uno dietro l’altro”.


Quali in particolare?
“Il primo è stato non fare chiuso subito tutta la Lombardia, poi non aver implementato un sistema di sorveglianza basato sui tamponi molecolari, e poi si è persa un’occasione d’oro tra giugno e settembre. Insomma, innumerevoli”.


Quindi lei boccerebbe la gestione da parte del ministro della Salute, Roberto Speranza?
“Se gli dovessi dare un voto gli darei 5 meno, ma a tutta la gestione più che al ministro, che ha seguito le indicazione delle persone che aveva intorno”.


Intende l’Istituto superiore di sanità e il Comitato tecnico scientifico?
“I numeri parlano da soli. La Lombardia in rapporto alla popolazione è prima nel mondo per morti. Nella seconda ondata poi abbiamo fatto il doppio dei morti della prima. Io sinceramente non sarei orgoglioso”.


Si augura che nel nuovo governo al ministero della Salute ci sia un tecnico? Lei ha fatto anche una battuta sull’ipotesi del suo nome, non escludendolo.
“Io ho detto: «Ci penserei». Se a un giornalista chiedono se vuole fare il caporedattore del “Washington Post”, che fa? Dice no? Sicuramente al ministero serve un cambiamento dello staff di tecnici che non ha dato buona prova”.


Anche il commissario Arcuri?
“Su questo non mi esprimo perché non conosco quella competenza tecnica”.


Si riuscirà mai a liberarci di questo Coronavirus o ce lo avremo sempre con noi come quelli del’influenza?
“Eliminare un virus è sempre difficile. Ma se teniamo il livello di trasmissione bassa, abbiamo più probabilità di controllarlo. L’Rt deve essere vicino allo zero, con il vaccino e le misure di tracciamento si può riuscire. Ma il virus farà sempre parte delle possibilità che dobbiamo considerare ogni volta che una persona sta male. Il problema è bloccarne la diffusione”.


Gli anticorpi monoclonali possono rappresentare la terapia che ci mancava per curare i malati di Covid-19?
“I monoclonali vanno bene paradossalmente per chi non ne ha bisogno, ovvero chi ha una malattia lieve o media. Per le forme gravi hanno avuto un effetto negativo”.


Ma dicono che su Trump abbiano fatto così bene, no?
“Chi l’ha detto che sia guarito per quello, magari ne sarebbe uscito lo stesso”.
