Ne è convinto Massimo Galli, primario infettivologo dell’ospedale Sacco di Milano, che ribadisce la maggior contagiosità.
“Una velocità di trasmissione maggiore del 37 o del 40% – ha spiegato – vuol dire che probabilmente il virus va anche più lontano del solito metro e mezzo. E infetta più efficacemente bambini e ragazzi. Anche se per fortuna non sembra più capace di ammazzare”.
“Una concentrazione magari anche inferiore delle famose goccioline – ha aggiunto – riesce ad arrivare qualche centimetro piu in là e ad arrivare ugualmente ad infettare per la maggiore affinità di questa variante per i nostri recettori cellulari. Sono ipotesi che hanno una loro logica e che ci spaventano in modo particolare. Sapevamo che avremmo dovuto fare i conti con queste nuove varianti che ci fanno prevedere un numero molto più elevato di malati: il rischio è quello di dover di nuovo fronteggiare una ondata pesante di infezioni”.
“Le cose non stanno andando per niente bene – ha osservato Galli – certi comportamenti sono a dir poco sciagurati, frutto dell’illusione di aver messo alle spalle qualcosa che invece abbiamo ancora davanti”. Quindi, ha proseguito: “Il lockdown ha un pregio e un limite. Il pregio è quello di far crollare le infezioni. Il limite è che se le situazioni non vengono ancora contenute, quando si riapre si torna daccapo”.
“La soluzione sta nel vaccino – ha ribadito – credo che si dovrebbero operare interventi vaccinali con una strategia parallela. Da una parte vaccinare strati di popolazione, operatori sanitari, anziani, fragili. Dall’altro cercare di usare il vaccino come ‘effetto barriera’ nelle aree maggiormente colpite. Potrebbe funzionare, non abbiamo certezze – ha concluso Galli – è una scommessa, ma secondo logica ed esperienza dovrebbe rivelarsi uno strumento importante”.
