Matteo Bassetti rilascia un’ intervista e ripercorre il trattamento da somministrare ai pazienti affetti da Covid-19.
«Se non ho alcun sintomo, non devo fare assolutamente niente. Nello stadio successivo, quello febbrile, senza ulteriori sintomi, si usano farmaci sintomatici come paracetamolo. Quando invece si ha interessamento polmonare ma la saturazione del sangue è ancora buona si utilizzano altri farmaci ma sempre sotto guida medica».
E aggiunge che la corsa ai farmaci anti-Covid è, in generale, un errore gravissimo, poiché stiamo parlando di «un’infezione che va gestita a stadi, a seconda del grado di interessamento del nostro organismo. Prendere medicine a cuor leggero è sbagliato, con l’autoprescrizione si rischia di ottenere l’effetto contrario». Bassetti si sofferma anche dell’assunzione di integratori per contrastare l’infezione: «Senza senso, non esiste un’evidenza scientifica a favore di questi prodotti».
Lattoferrina e cortisone, cosa ne pensa l’infettivologo
Anche la lattoferrina, le cui vendite in farmacia sono aumentate esponenzialmente, non può essere definita una risorsa contro il nuovo Coronavirus: «La medicina è fatta di evidenza scientifica e di aneddotica. Nel caso della lattoferrina siamo nel campo dell’aneddotica», dice.
Le evidenze, invece, ci sono nelle terapie che utilizzano cortisone: «Arreca beneficio e funziona nelle forme gravi, in cui c’è polmonite e deficit di ossigeno. Nei casi medio-lievi potrebbe anche non essere la risposta corretta».
Il medico, però, sottolinea che il problema risiede anche nella mancanza di «protocolli condivisi. Sapere cioè come curare un paziente che ha la febbre, oppure quando ha anche tosse e problemi respiratori, se ha una grave (ma ancora non gravissima) insufficienza respiratoria, a chi posso dare l’eparina e a chi no. Sono tutte cose che sarebbe bene fossero in un protocollo nazionale. E invece ho saputo di soggetti asintomatici che sono stati trattati con eparina, cortisone e antibiotici».
Bassetti Covid, cosa fare con la febbre
Nel caso in cui una persona sviluppi qualche linea di febbre, «la cosa migliore è starsene a casa. Se poi dopo 3-4 giorni comincio ad avere 38, la tosse e scende la saturazione, allora vado in ospedale. In questa seconda ondata io stesso sto gestendo da casa centinaia di pazienti che in questo modo lasciano un posto letto a chi realmente ne ha bisogno. È un esercizio di educazione civica e di rispetto per la comunità in cui viviamo».
Bassetti conclude l’intervista mettendo in chiaro una cosa: il Coronavirus «non finirà mai».
Anche sul suo profilo Facebook, il dottore ha ribadito: “Quando finirà il Covid? Probabilmente mai perchè questo virus ridurrà il numero di casi ma non sparirà neanche con il vaccino. Impariamo quindi a conviverci senza panico e senza cure fai da te”.
