Papa Francesco svela: “Morirò in carica o papa emerito, non torno in Argentina”

Papa Francesco svela cosa gli accadrà in futuro e lascia aperta la possibilità di diventare un Pontefice “emerito”, quindi di rinunciare alla carica. E dice anche di non avere paura della morte e di immaginarla a Roma: comunque non tornerà in Argentina.

E’ quanto afferma Bergoglio in un’intervista anticipata dal quotidiano argentino La Nación. Si tratta – spiega il sito della Santa Sede, Vatican News – di un colloquio avvenuto due anni fa, il 16 febbraio 2019, con il giornalista e medico argentino Nelson Castro per un suo libro sulla salute dei Papi, “La salud de los Papas”, che sta già facendo molto discutere in patria.

Francesco afferma di sentirsi bene e pieno di energia, “grazie a Dio”. Ricorda il “difficile momento”, nel 1957, a 21 anni, quando subì l’asportazione del lobo superiore del polmone destro a causa di tre cisti. “Quando mi sono ripreso dall’anestesia, il dolore che sentivo era molto intenso”. “Non è che non fossi preoccupato, ma ho sempre avuto la convinzione che sarei guarito”.

Sottolinea che il recupero è stato completo: “Non ho mai sentito alcuna limitazione nelle mie attività”. Anche nei diversi viaggi internazionali – osserva – “non ho mai dovuto limitare o cancellare” nessuna delle attività programmate: “Non ho mai provato affaticamento o mancanza di respiro (dispnea).
Come mi hanno spiegato i medici, il polmone destro si è espanso e ha coperto tutto l’emitorace omolaterale”.

L’intervistatore domanda al Papa se sia stato mai psicanalizzato: “Ti dico come sono andate le cose. Non mi sono mai psicanalizzato. Quand’ero provinciale dei Gesuiti, durante i giorni terribili della dittatura, in cui ho dovuto portare le persone in clandestinità per farle uscire dal Paese e salvare le loro vite, ho dovuto gestire situazioni che non sapevo come affrontare. Sono andato a trovare una signora – una grande donna – che mi aveva aiutato a leggere alcuni test psicologici per i novizi. Così, per sei mesi, l’ho consultata una volta alla settimana”. Era una psichiatra: “Durante quei sei mesi, mi ha aiutato ad orientarmi su come affrontare le paure di quel tempo. Immaginate cosa sia stato trasportare una persona nascosta nell’auto – solo da una coperta – e passare tre posti di blocco militari nella zona di Campo de Mayo. La tensione che generava in me era enorme”. Francesco rimarca che il colloquio con la psichiatra lo ha anche aiutato ad imparare a gestire l’ansia e ad evitare di prendere decisioni affrettate. Parla dell’importanza dello studio della psicologia per un prete: “Sono convinto che ogni sacerdote deve conoscere la psicologia umana”.

Quindi si sofferma sulle nevrosi: “Alle nevrosi bisogna preparare il mate. Non solo, bisogna anche accarezzarle. Sono compagne della persona durante tutta la sua vita”. Francesco, come aveva già detto una volta, ricorda di aver letto un libro che lo ha interessato molto e lo ha fatto ridere di gusto: “Rejoice in Being Neurotic” (Rallegrati di essere nevrotico) dello psichiatra americano Louis E. Bisch: “È molto importante essere in grado di sapere dove le ossa cigolano. Dove sono e quali sono i nostri mali spirituali. Con il tempo, si impara a conoscere le proprie nevrosi”.
Il Papa parla dell’ansia di voler fare tutto e subito. Cita il celebre proverbio attribuito a Napoleone Bonaparte: “Vestitemi lentamente, ho fretta”. Parla della necessità di saper rallentare. E uno dei suoi metodi è ascoltare Bach: “Mi calma e mi aiuta ad analizzare meglio i problemi”.
Alla fine del colloquio, il giornalista chiede al Pontefice se pensa alla morte: “Sì”, risponde Francesco. Se ha paura: “No, niente affatto”. E come immagina la sua morte: “Come Papa, in carica o emerito. E a Roma. Non tornerò in Argentina”.
