«Sono il sindaco! Le telecamere ti stanno riprendendo, butta la refurtiva a terra e fermati!». La scena concitata è stata questa e diverse persone l’hanno vista mentre passeggiavano in centro, sotto i portici cinquecenteschi della chiesa di San Nicolò, a Carpi, cittadina nel Modenese di circa 70.000 abitanti. Saranno state circa le tredici di mercoledì, quando una ragazza davanti a un bancomat nelle vicinanze ha gridato: «Mi hanno derubata!».
Un reato tra scippo e furto con destrezza, si appurerà poi. Mentre prelevava 500 euro una donna l’ha distratta e un complice le ha strappato i soldi. Nei pressi dello sportello sostava casualmente il sindaco Albero Bellelli, 44 anni, che stava tornando in ufficio. Si è voltato e ha visto un giovane che scappava di corsa. Senza esitare un istante, il primo cittadino si è messo all’inseguimento. Duecento metri a perdifiato lungo il viale e al termine dello sprint ha letteralmente braccato il fuggitivo, uno straniero dell’Est di 25 anni risultato poi, tra l’altro, incensurato.
«Pietà, pietà per i miei figli»
Ma fermarlo non è stato così semplice. Il ladro — al cui inseguimento intanto si era messo anche il marito della donna, in auto — ha dribblato colonne e passanti mentre il primo cittadino nel rincorrerlo non ha rinunciato, fiato permettendo, a fargli un mezzo predicozzo. Al Resto del Carlino, nella cronaca a firma Maria Silvia Cabri, Bellelli ha raccontato infatti di avergli gridato di «fermarsi perché non aveva scampo e c’erano le telecamere a riprenderlo». Ma lui niente. «Ha continuato a scappare, cambiando sempre direzione — è il racconto 24 ore dopo stavolta a Corriere.it —. Prima in via Berengario, poi in via Giuseppe Rocca. Anche se nella fuga ha ripetuto più volte “pietà, pietà per i miei figli”. Figurarsi, non c’era alcun intendimento di volergli fare mel male, volevo solo recuperare il maltolto, la refurtiva» spiega il sindaco, nella vita funzionario Pd e un passato — «ma ero poco più che un ragazzo» — di cronista all’Unità.

«Ho agito d’istinto ma anche con razionalità, inseguendo quella persona dopo essermi accertato che non fosse armato» dice ancora Bellelli. «Dopo aver gettato a terra parte dei soldi presi alla vittima» che sono poi stati recuperati, il ladro ha cercato di «nascondersi» tra le colonne di un portico, salvo poi provare a fuggire di nuovo. A «sbarrargli» la strada è stato un altro collaboratore di del sindaco, Norberto Carboni, dirigente dell’ufficio Lavori pubblici: e a questo punto il malvivente ha capito di non avere più scampo. «L’ho raggiunto e mettendogli la mano sulla spalla — conclude il primo cittadino, in carica dal 2014 e al secondo mandato — l’ho accompagnato verso la sede dell’istituto di credito per andare a chiedere scusa alla ragazza derubata».
