“Il coronavirus è cambiato nel tempo. Oggi abbiamo 22 paesi che hanno registrato la nuova variante, Sars CoV-2 Variant of Concern (Voc), e questo è un dato preoccupante perché è aumentata la trasmissibilità del virus. Ma fino ad oggi sappiamo che non c’è stato nessun cambiamento significativo nella malattia prodotta da questa variante, non né più grave né meno grave“.
Lo ha spiegato Hans Kluge, direttore regionale dell’Organizzazione mondiale della sanità (Oms) per l’Europa nella prima conferenza stampa del 2021.
“Senza un controllo più stretto per rallentare la sua diffusione ci sarà una maggior impatto sugli ospedali già stressati e sotto pressione”, ha rimarcato il direttore.
“Questa variante si diffonde in tutte le fasce d’età e i bambini non sembrano essere a rischio più elevato. La nostra valutazione è che questa variante possa, nel tempo, sostituire altri ceppi circolanti come si è visto nel Regno Unito e si sta vedendo sempre più in Danimarca”, ha concluso.
