Ed è una pietra miliare, ma soprattutto simbolica, sulla strada verso il ritorno a una sorta di normalità del Regno Unito che nella road map di Boris Johnson è prevista il 21 giugno, il possibile giorno “dell’indipendenza” dal Covid.
Lo confermano i dati della sanità pubblica inglese del 28 marzo, riportati dalla Bbc: nessun decesso per Covid. Sembra passata un’era dallo scorso aprile quando c’erano 230 morti al giorno nella capitale britannica, che sinora ha rappresentato il 12% delle vittime totali per Coronavirus in Regno Unito. Anche a gennaio la situazione era decisamente critica, prima del lockdown totale di due mesi e mezzo ancora in corso. Allora gli ospedali londinesi erano quasi al collasso, travolti da centinaia di nuovi pazienti al giorno ricoverati a causa del virus. Oggi, invece, domina la speranza. “È meraviglioso, è il segno che stiamo tornando alla normalità”, dice un medico di base alla rete pubblica.
La notizia arriva proprio nel giorno di un primo rilassamento del lockdown nazionale annuciato dal primo ministro Boris Johnson lo scorso gennaio. Da oggi, si potrà incontrare altre 5 persone all’esterno (in luoghi pubblici o in giardini di case private) e non solo una come era sinora. Inoltre, sono stati riammessi gli sport di squadra all’aperto. Una exit strategy lenta e accorta, affinché non si ripetano gli errori passati e si esca da quello che il governo considera l’ultimo lockdown del Paese. Il prossimo 12 aprile, se tutto dovesse andare secondo la tabella di marcia nella lotta al Covid, dovrebbero riaprire anche i negozi non essenziali e pub e ristoranti, ma solo per il servizio all’aperto, fino al ritorno a una sorta di normalità, e senza il distanziamento sociale, dal 21 giugno prossimo.

La bella notizia di zero morti ieri a Londra, su 19 ieri totali nel Regno Unito per Covid, ha varie cause. Innanzitutto, una straordinaria campagna vaccinale sinora, con almeno 33 milioni di residenti in Regno Unito che hanno ricevuto almeno una dose di vaccino (il 10% di questi due dosi). Gli effetti dell’ìimmunizzazione, seppur parziale, sono già evidenti. Inoltre, il lockdown di due mesi e mezzo, come detto, che ha ridotto di molto i contagi fino a poche migliaia al giorno su oltre un milione di test al giorno. Terzo, l’uso delle mascherine molto più diffuso, perlomeno nella capitale. Non sono obbligatorie all’esterno, ma oramai nei supermercati o sui mezzi pubblici è molto raro incontrare qualcuno a volto scoperto, dopo tanta ritrosia nei mesi scorsi. Oggi a Londra splende anche il sole, e, a leggere questi dati, c’è da essere davvero ottimisti per il futuro.
