Sono almeno 32 i morti e 66 i feriti nello scontro tra due treni avvenuto in Egitto, nella città di Tahta nel governatorato di Shoag. Questo è quanto ha riferito un portavoce del ministero della Salute egiziano ai media locali. Ma il numero potrebbe salire nelle prossime ore. L’incidente è avvenuto tra un treno che trasportava passeggeri e un altro. Tre i vagoni deragliati e 50 ambulanze intervenute sul posto. Il ministro dei Trasporti egiziano, Kamel El-Wazir, andrà sul luogo dell’incidente e ha chiesto l’arresto dei due conducenti e la formazione di un comitato tecnico per accertare le cause dello scontro.
L’Autorità ferroviaria egiziana ha fatto sapere che «alcuni individui hanno attivato i freni d’emergenza» su uno dei due treni coinvolti. E questo ha comportato l’arresto di uno dei due mezzi che è stato poi colpito dal secondo treno che arrivava da dietro. Questo è quanto al momento si conosce del grave incidente ferroviario avvenuto nell’Egitto centrale.
Un altro grave incidente ferroviario era avvenuto in Egitto il 27 febbraio 2019. Un locomotore non si fermò alla fine del bianario e l’urto innescò un devastante incendio alla stazione di Ramses, al Cairo, provocando 28 morti e 52 feriti. Per quell’incidente, l’allora ministro dei Trasporti decise di rassegnare le dimissioni. Ma il più grave incidente ferroviario nella storia egiziana risale al 2002, quando oltre 370 persone rimasero uccise in un incendio scoppiato su un treno pieno di persone in viaggio sulla linea che collega Il Cairo a Luxor.
