Il processo di definizione del nome di un farmaco è completamente diverso dal processo di approvazione. Sono due processi che vanno in parallelo”.
Il processo di definizione del nome “è terminato in questi giorni e abbiamo comunicato il nome del nostro vaccino“, dice Lorenzo Wittum, amministratore delegato di AstraZeneca Italia durante un webinar promosso dall’American Chamber of Commerce in Italia (AmCham).

Il vaccino è finito ripetutamente sotto i riflettori. “Una parte della nostra produzione è già fatta in Italia per quanto riguarda l’infialamento. E siamo in colloqui con alcune aziende che potrebbero produrre il bulk, che è la sostanza attiva”.
“Il tema della fiducia mi preoccupa davvero molto. E’ essenziale focalizzarsi davvero sulla scienza e sui dati. I protocolli dei nostri studi in Europa e Usa erano per una vaccinazione universale, senza limiti d’età sopra i 18 anni e così sono state le approvazioni” del vaccino anti-Covid “da parte di Ema in Europa e quella della Gran Bretagna. E ora siamo in procinto di fare la sottomissione negli Usa” per l’ok.
“E’ importante poi vedere come si sta comportando il vaccino nella vita reale: in Inghilterra dove quasi 15 milioni di persone sono state vaccinate con AstraZeneca ha ridotto le ospedalizzazioni, dato protezione contro le infezioni e non ha mostrato effetti” avversi “particolari diversi da quelli visti negli studi clinici. In ogni caso siamo a disposizione delle autorità regolatorie con tutti i dati che abbiamo”.
