“Chi si vaccina contro il coronavirus non si ammala ma si può infettare lo stesso e trasmettere la malattia se non porta la mascherina. Quando si vedrà l’effetto della vaccinazione, anche i più scettici la faranno“. La professoressa Ilaria Capua, direttrice dell’UF One Health Center, a DiMartedì si esprime così sul vaccino contro il coronavirus.
“Esistono pochissimi vaccini che danno immunità sterile e se incontro il virus sono totalmente impermeabile. Nel mondo reale, se sono vaccinato ho una barriera che mi protegge dalla malattia. Ma da vaccinato posso andare in giro come se fossi sicuro al 100%? La risposta è no. Quando si parla di efficacia, si fa riferimento alla malattia”, aggiunge la scienziata.
“Il vaccino non è efficace al 100% contro l’infezione, ma la riduce drasticamente. Quando arriverà il vaccino, quindi, non ci sarà un liberi tutti. Oltretutto ci vorranno mesi per vaccinare tutta la popolazione, servirà un piano molto ben organizzato. Il vaccino non è la panacea, è uno degli strumenti”, ripete.
“Io farò il vaccino e aspetterò il mio turno. Certo che mi vaccinerò, mi farò anche una foto. Ma non sgomiterò perché ci sono persone che vanno tutelate prima delle altre”, dice. Il vaccino deve essere obbligatorio? “Quando si vedrà l’effetto della vaccinazione, anche i più scettici la faranno”.
