“La nuova moda è terrorizzare con la variante” di coronavirus. “Vorrei far notare che varianti virali emergono continuamente e, fino a prova contraria, non rappresentano un pericolo. Vale per le varianti quello che vale per i cittadini: innocenti fino a prova contraria”.
Così su Facebook il virologo dell’Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele di Milano, Roberto Burioni, che aggiunge: “In particolare non c’è nessun elemento che ci faccia pensare che quelle già individuate sfuggano all’azione dei vaccini più potenti, anzi dati preliminari sembrano suggerire il contrario, anche se poi naturalmente dovremo vedere cosa succede in concreto. Per esempio, in concreto in Israele la variante ‘inglese’ è contrastata impeccabilmente dal vaccino”.
“Il futuro non possiamo predirlo – sottolinea – ma non è detto che una variante resistente al vaccino possa comparire, pensate solo al morbillo che ha un meccanismo di replicazione del suo genoma a Rna molto più impreciso del coronavirus e questo introduce più mutazioni del coronavirus. Il vaccino contro il morbillo è stato messo a punto negli anni ’60 ed è ancora efficace come il primo giorno. Calma e vaccini – ammonisce dunque Burioni – soprattutto tanti vaccini. Se ci sono somministriamoli, se non ci sono produciamoli, se siamo in ritardo non perdiamo altro tempo. Vacciniamo!“, conclude.
