Indagini in corso per stabilire le responsabilità del naufragio sabato notte a una quindicina di miglia al largo di Ventotene. Nello specchio di mare tra le isole pontine e Gaeta.
Una barca a vela di poco più di undici metri, il Pelican, è stata travolta e affondata da una bettolina, il Valais. Quest’ultima scarica l’acqua potabile all’isola di Ponza e solca abitualmente le acque tra Gaeta, Formia e le isole pontine.
Incidente Ventotene, la collisione
La collisione è avvenuta in piena notte, sabato intorno alle 2,50, ed è subito scattato l’allarme. Per fortuna nessuno dei membri dell’equipaggio, in gran parte torinese, incluso lo skipper Stefano Gnech, con anni di esperienza in mare, ha riportato ferite. La barca, dopo l’impatto con la nave, “è colata a picco in pochissimi minuti”, così il racconto dello stesso Gnech agli uomini della Capitaneria di porto di Ventotene e poi di Napoli intervenuti nella notte sul luogo dell’affondamento.
Tutti in salvo dunque i 7 membri dell’equipaggio della barca a vela che hanno subito attivato la zattera di salvataggio e sono stati imbarcati a bordo della nave stessa e trasferiti a Napoli per ulteriori verifiche sanitarie.

La barca a vela stava partecipando alla Regata dei Tre Golfi, della Rolex Capri Sailing Week, tradizionale appuntamento velico che si svolge tra Napoli e Capri. Decine le barche a vela in mare per partecipare a una manifestazione sempre molto amata e seguita dagli appassionati. Le condizioni del mare non erano proibitive ed ora sarà battaglia tra periti per stabilire come si possa essere verificata la collisione che poteva avere conseguenze ben più drammatiche. Come sia stato possibile che nessun membro dell’equipaggio dei due natanti, uno il Pelican, che procedeva lentamente a vela, l’altro una nave di ottanta metri che procedeva spedita a motore, si sia accorto dell’impatto imminente nemmeno con l’ausilio della strumentazione d’allarme a bordo.
