Un giro assieme, sul camion, per farsi spiegare gli ultimi dettagli. Ma verso le 18, una volta sceso dalla cabina dell’autoarticolato per tornare alla sua auto, Gava è stato travolto dal tir: il collega, svoltando a destra, non si è accorto di lui e lo ha investito. Nulla hanno potuto i medici del 118 intervenuti verso le 18 in via Padania Industriale, di fronte all’Odissea, al di là della Pontebbana, dove è avvenuto l’incidente e dove gli accertamenti della Polstrada di Treviso sono proseguiti fino a tarda serata, fino alle 22.

Gli agenti hanno sentito a lungo il collega del camionista per capire con precisione come mai non si sia accorto della presenza del 65enne, colpito frontalmente dal tir durante la manovra. Il 50enne era inconsolabile: «Ci siamo salutati, è sceso dal tir ed è andato verso il marciapiede – ha detto in lacrime -. Io ho controllato gli specchietti e ho svoltato a destra. Non mi ero accorto che era davanti al mezzo, non potevo vederlo»
Gava, che lascia un figlio, Andrea, raggiunto dalla terribile notizia mentre si trovava a Milano, pochi secondi prima dell’incidente aveva detto al collega: «Fermati qui, che vado a prendere la mia macchina».
Era felice, a 63 anni, di aver trovato una nuova opportunità di lavoro. Avrebbe lavorato, da autonomo, per i proprietari del tir del collega. Mai si sarebbe aspettato che la giornata sarebbe finita in questo modo. E così il 50enne rumeno, che fino a pochi minuti prima aveva cercato di dare al collega più anziani ogni possibile consiglio utile.
Ma dopo averlo salutato, non si è accorto che il 63enne non si trovava più sul marciapiede, ma davanti al tir. E così, appena ha dato gas, lo ha colpito. Un urto non violentissimo, ma per Gava fatale, morto praticamente sul colpo.
