Lavavano i tamponi nasali per il Covid e li utilizzavano nuovamente per testare i passeggeri in partenza all’aeroporto di Medan, in Indonesia.
Con questa accusa sono stati arrestati cinque impiegati di una casa farmaceutica e, come riporta la Bbc, secondo la polizia circa 9mila persone potrebbero essere state sottoposte ai controlli con bastoncini riutilizzati.
Ora Kimia Farma, società a controllo statale, rischia una potenziale causa legale da parte dei viaggiatori. Secondo la ricostruzione del Jakarta Post, sono stati usati più volte almeno 150 kit per il test rapido antigenico. Questo deve dare risultato negativo per consentire al viaggiatore di imbarcarsi, come previsto dai provvedimenti governativi. Uno scandalo che, sottolinea il quotidiano locale, insidia le prospettive di ripresa del turismo, uno dei pilastri dell’economia indonesiana.
Per la polizia questo raggiro sistematico è iniziato a dicembre nello scalo del capoluogo di Sumatra occidentale. Dopo numerose lamentele da parte di viaggiatori per ‘falsi positivi’, la polizia settimana scorsa ha inviato un agente sotto copertura a sottoporsi al controllo, risultato positivo: i suoi colleghi hanno fatto irruzione nel laboratorio dei test, scoprendo che i kit venivano riutilizzati.
Ci sono denunce da parte di 23 testimoni, riferiscono media locali, secondo cui le autorità sospettano che la frode (dal valore stimato di circa 124mila dollari) sia servita anche a finanziare la costruzione di una casa di lusso per uno dei sospettati. Kimia Farma ha licenziato i dipendenti coinvolti promettendo di irrigidire controlli interni.
