Questo il bilancio, ancora provvisorio, di una tragedia avvenuta ieri, 2 marzo 2021, durante un’assemblea studentesca all’Università di El Alto, in Bolivia. Il crollo di una balaustra, con gli studenti accalcati, ha fatto precipitare nel vuoto diversi ragazzi e ragazze.
La tragedia è avvenuta ieri pomeriggio, nel corso di un’assemblea studentesca. Decine e decine di studenti si erano accalcati al quarto piano della Facoltà di Economia dell’Ateneo di El Alto e, in quel momento, stando anche alla testimonianze di alcuni presenti, molti di loro stavano contestando una loro rappresentante. Come si evince chiaramente dal video (visibile alla fine dell’articolo), tra gli studenti era sorta subito moltissima tensione, con un gruppo di ragazze che erano venute alle mani proprio a ridosso del parapetto. Pochi istanti dopo, la balaustra ha ceduto e almeno undici giovani sono precipitati nel vuoto, con una ragazza che è riuscita miracolosamente a salvarsi anche grazie all’aiuto di alcuni compagni di corso. Il bilancio parla di cinque studenti morti sul colpo, altri due deceduti in ospedale e almeno altri quattro giovani in gravissime condizioni. Le vittime erano quattro ragazzi e tre ragazze, di età compresa tra i 19 e i 27 anni.
Un intero paese è sotto choc per quanto accaduto all’Università di El Alto e non mancano le polemiche. In primis, viene messa sotto accusa la sicurezza dell’intero edificio e la qualità dei materiali utilizzati. La polemica principale riguarda però come sia stato permesso a decine di giovani di riunirsi su un unico piano dell’università, senza il rispetto delle misure di distanziamento e biosicurezza dovute alla pandemia del coronavirus. Intanto, la polizia boliviana ha avviato indagini per accertare con precisione la causa dell’incidente.
