Variante Covid – Un caso della cosiddetta variante inglese del Covid-19 è stato rilevato a Loreto, in provincia di Ancona. Una sequenza parziale è stata individuata dal Laboratorio di Virologia degli Ospedali Riuniti di Ancona.
Si tratta di una persona che non ha avuto collegamenti diretti con la Gran Bretagna e che si è sottoposta a tampone molecolare nei giorni scorsi perché aveva un forte raffreddore e che ora è in isolamento con la famiglia.
“Nel frattempo abbiamo approfondito gli accertamenti – dice all’Ansa il direttore del Laboratorio Stefano Menzo – e ora sappiamo che si tratta della variante inglese”.
Sulla “Vui 202012/01” ormai nota come la “variante inglese” nei giorni scorsi, infatti, si sono susseguite informazioni convulse sulla portata e i rischi che potrebbe comportare il virus mutato in terra britannica.
La prima analisi dell’Agenzia europea per il controllo delle malattie di pochi giorni fa illustra come “il numero insolitamente alto di mutazioni della proteina Spike e l’alta copertura del sequenziamento nel Regno Unito suggerisca che la variante non sia emersa attraverso un accumulo graduale di mutazioni” in Gran Bretagna.
Piuttosto, una possibile spiegazione è l’infezione prolungata da Sars-cov-2 in “un singolo paziente, potenzialmente con immunocompetenza ridotta”. Se questo tipo di infezione si prolunga, scrivono gli scienziati europei, “può portare all’accumulo di mutazioni di fuga immunitaria a un tasso elevato”.
