“In una situazione di trasmissione, vaccinare a rilento è un azzardo biologico”, dice il professor Andrea Crisanti, ospite di Piazzapulita.
“Più il virus si trasmette, più genera varianti. Si realizza la possibilità che alcune mutazioni siano resistenti al vaccino. Idealmente, bisognerebbe fare un lockdown, abbassare la trasmissione e vaccinare più gente possibile”, avvisa Crisanti analizzando il quadro della situazione.
L’Italia ha avviato la campagna di vaccinazione da circa 20 giorni. Gli ultimi dati quotidiani fanno riferimento ad oltre 17mila nuovi casi.
“Vedo un problema di comprensione biologica: bisognerebbe abbattere la trasmissione, non è mai accaduto nella storia che si vaccini mentre c’è trasmissione. Bisogna ridurre i numeri dei positivi, è l’unico modo per evitare che si generino varianti resistenti. Serve un lockdown di 2 mesi? Basterebbe un reset di 3-4 settimane e vaccinare più persone possibili“.
