Roberto Benigni è il Leone d’oro alla carriera della 78esima Mostra Internazionale del Cinema di Venezia. Lo ha annunciato la Biennale. La decisione è stata presa dal Cda della Biennale di Venezia, che ha fatto propria la proposta del direttore della Mostra Alberto Barbera. L’attore e regista, 68 anni, ha già vinto tre premi Oscar per il suo film «La vita è bella» ed è uno dei volti più amati sia in Italia che all’estero.
Nel motivare la scelta, Barbera ha spiegato quanto segue.
«Sin dai suoi esordi, avvenuti all’insegna di una ventata innovatrice e irrispettosa di regole e tradizioni, Roberto Benigni si è imposto nel panorama dello spettacolo italiano come una figura di riferimento, senza precedenti e senza eguali. Alternando le sue apparizioni su palcoscenici teatrali, set cinematografici e studi televisivi con risultati di volta in volta sorprendenti. Si è imposto in tutti in virtù della sua esuberanza e irruenza, della generosità con cui si concede al pubblico e della gioiosità appassionata che costituisce la cifra forse più originale delle sue creazioni. Con ammirevole eclettismo, senza mai rinunciare a essere se stesso, è passato dal vestire i panni dell’attore comico tra i più straordinari della pur ricca galleria di interpreti italiani, a quelli di regista memorabile in grado di realizzare film di enorme impatto popolare, per trasformarsi da ultimo nel più apprezzato interprete e divulgatore della ‘Divina Commedia’ dantesca».
E poi conclude: «Pochi artisti hanno saputo come lui fondere la sua comicità esplosiva, spesso accompagnata da una satira dissacrante, a mirabili doti d’interprete – al servizio di grandi registi come Federico Fellini, Matteo Garrone e Jim Jarmusch – nonché di avvincente e raffinato esegeta letterario».
Roberto Benigni, nell’accettare la proposta, ha invece dichiarato: «Il mio cuore è colmo di gioia e gratitudine. È un onore immenso ricevere un così alto riconoscimento verso il mio lavoro dalla Mostra Internazionale d’Arte Cinematografica di Venezia».
