“Ho trovato i quadri in soffitta. Avevano una coperta buttata sopra. Uno dei due era adagiato in mezzo al guano dei piccioni. Quando li abbiamo scoperti, a me e a Stefania sono subito sembrati molto belli e li abbiamo portati in casa”. È il racconto fatto al quotidiano La Stampa da Max Mazzola, pizzaiolo di Valenza, in Piemonte, che insieme alla moglie ha trovato due capolavori del Seicento, scomparsi 25 anni fa, mentre stava sistemando la sua nuova abitazione.
Le tele sono state attribuite a Guglielmo Caccia detto il Moncalvo: una Madonna del Rosario e un’Annunciazione risalenti al XVII secolo.
Erano state rubate alla parrocchia di Borgo San Martino 25 anni fa.
L’autenticità è stata confermata anche dal critico d’arte Vittorio Sgarbi.
Come riporta La Stampa: Max e Stefania interpellano anche un gallerista di Torino, Roberto Cazzuoli, che conferma l’autenticità delle opere. Poi arriva la risposta di Sgarbi: “Le opere sono di Guglielmo Caccia, detto il Moncalvo”. Sgarbi avrebbe voluto acquistarle, ma apprende che sono inserite in un elenco di quadri trafugati.
Dopo il ritrovamento sono stati proprio i coniugi Mazzola ad avvisare i carabinieri di Valenza, ricevendo l’invito a segnalare il fatto ai colleghi del nucleo per la Tutela del Patrimonio Culturale di Torino. L’indagine è in corso: i militari non possono svelare i dettagli sugli ex proprietari da cui i Mazzola hanno acquistato la casa dove le opere sono state ritrovate e neanche il luogo in cui ora sono conservate.
